the thing with whatsmyip and maxmind, for that matter, they translate your IP address into it's source network node, NOT a geograhpical location like a gps would. So, you may be connecting to your ISP at home in, say, carlisle, but from your exchange, the network node on your ISP's backhaul that is allocating your IP address may be the opposite side/end of the country. E.G. I'm in north wales, but when I resync sometimes I end up connected via the nottingham or east sussex node of my ISP's network. GPS on the other hand, points to a location that's been triangulated between (normally at least) two satellites from fixed positions.
