Same for me too. Letter arrived Saturday to say card would be blocked on tuesday...
Very strange.0 -
Having just spoken to Egg, all they would say is that they are passed details from Mastercard and they act upon it.
I also have a Egg Visa card and that is not affected.0 -
We received the same letter too. Card blocked today - but new cards not arrived yet.0

I was thinking of ditching them anyway now they're under citibank (ruthless American bank). Though they're trying to sell off Egg I believe.
Still, I'll probably just use my Nationwide cards more. Doesn't make much difference as I pay them off anyway. Only stuck with Egg because they were good back in the Pru days and used to get good cashback. No longer the case.
Nationwide aren't so good now with overseas transactions as they're about to charge fees on top of the stuff they already pass on from Visa. Though they claim they're still better than the rest. Not sure if that applies to the credit cards though as they only mentioned the debit card (which I use a lot for withdrawing cash overseas because of the no fee situation).
Still, Nationwide are still a mutual.0 -

Mine got blocked on holiday a day after they had phoned me to verify transactions. "Unusual activity" they said, while it would be with me being abroad. I did ask why it was blocked given that I had been through all the transaction with them the day before, but they refused to listen. Off the record the CS said it could be the topping up of foreign mobiles.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Is there a reason you only have one card?
That sounds ridiculous to me but I'm open minded on you having a reason.
You are obviously vulnerable with only one card from something as simple as a mag strip not working.0 -
I have had both Egg credit cards, the Visa and the Mastercard, since 2001 - never missed a payment and always paid more than the minimum. I also had Egg Loans in the past, all fully paid up now with no missed payments. Received two letters this week, one for each card, telling me that my credit limit for each card had "been reduced in line with their responsible lending policy." Each card was reduced by about £1500, no big deal as I don't particularly need or want the higher credit limit. Strangely enough, on the same day, I also received a letter from First Direct about my third credit card, increasing the limit quite substantially due to my account being "in line with their policy on responsible lending." Odd, I thought, and quickly checked my credit reports with both Experian and Equifax, each show an exemplary payment record, nothing out of line, haven't moved home for years and am on the electoral roll. Mortgage and Car HP, both fully up to date (mortgage overpayments ++ ) and no late or missed payments.
Should I be concerned about this?0 -
I also had my Egg visa card cancelled for security reasons. Got a new one in the post a few days later but then a week later got a letter from them telling me my DD payment had failed. When I phoned them they said they hadn't had time to do a new DD for the new card number. Also told me to look at my next statement and if I get charged £16 for a late payment I should tell them and they'd remove it.
Check your statements for late charges.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0
