Giving up being a vegetarian

You can't give up being a vegetarian.
Human Beings are omnivores. Choosing not to eat meat makes you an omnivore that doesn't eat meat.

that's why i'm a meat eater. I look at all the little cows and calves happily prancing about in the field without a care in the world. Then i look at all the miserable adult sheep and cows. The sheep wandering about in their dirty wool jackets waiting to have it all cut off, then there's the cows. All they do is eat grass while they're waiting to have their tits pulled by Mr & Mrs Farmer. I feel like a saviour when i bite into my lamb chops.:D0 -
Vegetarian means you don't eat meat or fish. Whether your body is designed to eat these things as well as what is to be found in a veggie diet is unimportant.Gorgeous_George wrote:You can't give up being a vegetarian.

If you want to eat meat, eat it. It won't do you any harm. I know several veggies who went back to eating meat recently. 2 because of meat eating partners and 1 because he was staying in a hotel for a while that only had 1 veggie option. (Months, not just a week or so!) And a vegan friend who was very strict about it but gave it up after years and went straight for a macdonald's burger. None of them got upset stomachs or had any problems.
I'm a confirmed veggie and have been for more than half my life, but I am pregnant and craving chicken. So I'm having it occasionally. If the baby's not veggie there's nothing I can do about it. LOLMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
If you want it, eat it.
If it makes you feel bad, either physically or mentally, then stop eating it again.
Simple.
I'm not a veggie, but do try to eat some Quorn and more vegetables to get healthier.
A person with a healthy diet who eats a little meat and lots of fresh veggies and fruit is imho likely to be healthier than a vegetarian who eats low quality protein alternatives (cheese pizza etc...)

I was a veggie throughout my teens. However, after my a-levels I went interrailing and arrived in Athens after a 14 hour train journey absolutely starving. The only place open was a burger bar and I ate the burger. When I wasn't struck down by a thunderbolt, I decided to carry on eating meat!
I don't eat it everyday and eat a lot of veggie food and try to only buy organic or free range meat."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
As it happens I'm a vegan (I get my Omega 3 from Flaxseed & take a B12 supplement) but I'm not evangelical about it. Being vegan doesn't make me better or worse than anyone else, it's simply my choice & wouldn't presume to try & influence anyone else.
I don't believe that human beings are naturally omnivore or vegan, I believe we all have free choice & should eat according to our own personal likes. dislikes & views.
I don't have a moral objection to anyone eating meat or dairy, we're just too far from the reality of what that entails. I think that the majority of people choose not to inform themselves about how these things end up on their plate & that's what I don't like.
In my opinion there's a hypocrisy in eating cows, sheep & pigs & finding the idea of horse or dog meat eaten in other parts of the world less acceptable.0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies. I have been eating meat all weekend, and it sits fine with me, you should've seen my devour 3/4 of a chicken at nandos last nite in about 5minutes

i was veggie for about 3 years a few years back and I got severe anaemia and carried on regardless and I ended up being really ill.
One day, I just snapped, and ate a roast chicken sunday dinner. Never looked back.
I dont eat any rogue meat, and try and only buy free range meat. I occasionally fancy a mcdonalds, then remember to self its not pleasant. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I was a vegetarian for 11 years and switched back about 9 years ago. There were several reasons behind it. I was quite young when I started (about 13) and I was seen as cool by other people for being a veggie. Problem was it was quite difficult being a veggie then. There wasn't many vegetarian options in the shops and most of my food came from a health food shop. Also eating out was impossible as in those days they never had a vegetarian option available.
The other reason was that I was forever falling ill with colds, flu, tummy bugs and you name it and I was also forever having dizzy spells and fainting. I ate a varied diet but still never felt like I was getting the right nutrition.
Another reason was that I was starting to miss meat and crave it like mad.
My first meat after being a veggie for so long was a lamb chop at my parents BBQ and it went down really well. The next day I went to McDonalds and had a big mac and it was lovely. I've ate meat almost every day since then and will never go back to being a veggie.

I didn't eat meat for 6 years from the age of 14, though I wasn't vegetarian as I ate fish. I grew up in the countryside so my reason for stopping was not the thought of killing the animals, but working in a restaurent p/t and seeing half a cow, or 20 feathered turkeys hanging up in the cold room, totally turned my stomach seeing the chefs preparing them

Have to admit vege options in restaurents were pants, we walked out of one as they'd run out of my choice and I wasn't told until 10 mins after ordering, the only option left was cauliflower and brocoli bake  and they'd started cooking my partners meal
When I started eating meat again I'd not worked at the restaurent for 2 years, so the images had started to fade and I felt comfortable to eat it again and I didn't suffer from indigestion.
We mainly eat chicken and Nando's is my favourite, but there's not one close bycoolio wrote:Thanks everyone for your replies. I have been eating meat all weekend, and it sits fine with me, you should've seen my devour 3/4 of a chicken at nandos last nite in about 5minutes
