    There has been no wrong advice given. I'm MS Certified and did the Win7 training. Windows Vista Home Premium can be upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium as an in-place upgrade - I've done it on two of my own.

    And there is no reason why it shouldn't be compatible with the Pro version - the main differences being the ability to join a corporate domain.

    The OP stated in his third post;
    i just want to do an in place install and not a custom install

    So any continued advice to get Windows 7 Professional is just erroneous.

    You may have also noticed that Windows 7 Home Premium is simply not available as an option for students. Only Professional or Ultimate, with Ultimate being the only suitable upgrade option.
