upgrade to windows 7

is there anywhere i can upgrade this cheaply,i'm a student at university so have a valid e-mail address, most places i have looked i can download the ultimate version, but can't find anywhere with the premium version,my laptop is not compatible with the proffessional version which seems to be the cheapest version.i'm upgrading from windows vista.
the only thing it says is not compatible is the

cisco peap module version 1.0.13 which says i have to upgrade to a windows 7 version, but by looking around most people upgrade without any problems with this

cheers

scott

If it can run Vista, it can run Windows 7 and will run Pro just fine.
  • it says when i run the windows 7 upgrade advisor it says i can upgrade to 32bit windows premium or ultimate, but dosen't mention professional

    Ultimate.

Hammyman missed that you want to do an in-place upgrade.

Ultimate has everything but unless you need to access a domain, Home Premium is more than enough.

Ultimate costs more, so Pro should be fine.

Sheesh...does anyone actually bother to peruse the thread before posting?
  • if I'm reading the OP correctly, the only immediate pro/ultimate upgrade issue is a driver for the Cisco module, I really can't understand why other versions would have compat. issues with it, unless it's a simple as the extras supported by pro/ult, ie XP mode, having the issue.

Best thing to do is pop to Cisco and look for a driver for the module, once you have that upgrade to whichever is best value for you, probably Pro.

In acknowledgement to Mr Grumpy, above...

So it looks like the OP has Vista Home.

But beware that Windows 7 isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread, as some would have you believe. In particular driver support can be lacking (vendors seem disinclined to release Windows 7 drivers: I have a HP machine with no audio, and NetGear & Belkin wireless USB dongles that don't work), and the XP & Vista compatibility modes may not solve things.
