It's frikin loads, as long as you remember to close the apps that use data, typically I tether my handset to my netbook during the weekdays, and visiting various sites, banking etc, on a bad month 500mb-1g of data is used, typically it is just over 500mb, just using the phone apps and tomtom traffic datadownloads, lucky to use 30mb in a month.0

My friend has a HTC Hero and uses between 300-700mb a month, he uses google maps for navigation and is always connected to his gmail account. There are a few app downloads as well.
If you do alot of browsing you should still be okay, unless you spend your life on youtube which would eat your bandwidth.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
