Please can you help.
My RAC cover is due to expire at the end of the month and costs me £70 for myself and partner (with no home start).
I feel this is too much and was wondering if anyone had found any good deals out there.
Many thanks.

    Thank-you.

  • I have just followed the link to the roadside recovery thread, then on to the insure website. We run classics (20 years old and over). Don't bother to go there if you do too! The cheapest cover offered was £137, not even the highest cover and no home cover, the highest quote was over £300!! That's for 2 people with 2/3 classics. At least the RAC has no loading if you have an older vehicle (unless you get Euro cover, then you have a £40 addition), in fact the driver is covered in any car. I had hoped this wasn't the case, but I am beginning to think differently!

Check that you've not ALREADY got cover...

Your car insurer may have a (limited) option, in your policy.

Also MBNA Family credit card gives GreenFlag free - other perks with the card too.

Unfortunatly when you ring MBNA to apply, they don't know too much about the card or the package!!

Ours card has come through, but all these other things, haven't appeared yet!We get a free cordless phone, GreenFlag, home emergency cover (no idea whats coverd) 0% transfers, holiday delay insurance.

This could be turn into ANOTHER posting!!

Thanks for that, I didn't know. I will look into that. I must admit that I usually save the vouchers up for christmas, though I was aware that they are worth more as offers. Problem is, I don't go to Tesco as much as I used to, so have fewer vouchers these days.

  • Why not consider changing to a Halifax Extras current account..... If you pay in a min. £1000 month into the account you qaulify for free green flag cover.

I would, but Green Flag don't cover vans of our size.

& it's also worth remembering, that the aerosol can 'tyre fix' type sprays are only a get you home, repair.

You'll still need to get the puncture fixed, afterwards. This in itself can be a problem. Some tyre dealers won't mend a puncture in a tyre, once it's been filled with the gunge, from your repair can!!

Plus of course, if you get a blow out, the spray won't help there!!

    Best get a useable spare!!

& make sure you can fit it - sometimes the wheelnuts were tightened by gorillas, it'd seem!!

  • I had just resigned to the fact that I would be paying the full £70 when my Debenhams store card statement came through the post advertising 25% discount with RAC. Rang them and they took £12 off the price.
    So I'm much happier.
    Thank-you to all who replied.
