Being the registered keeper doesn't imply or prove ownership. Too many people seem to think it does.

Works for 99.999% of the cars out there that aren't on finance.
Don't think a £300 fiesta would be a great arguement.

We know that. However, it's clear that a transaction has taken place between the boyfriend and his uncle, and the fact that he has handed over the logbook assists in showing that the deal was done.
  • wait for him to drive it and report it taken without consent, That will get him back.

  • Think I would say to the uncle he has two choices, either give you a receipt saying the car was given to you in lieu of the work carried out on his other car ( and list all the costs involved) or give him an invoice for the parts, labour and mot fee and he can have the car he "lent" you back once he has paid cash in full, don't see how that is any different to my local garage who im sure wouldn't give me my car back until I have paid in full for any parts or work done on my vehicle.

Possession is 9/10ths of the law, and in this case the OP is the owner of the fiesta as described in #5. In the absence of any written agreement to the contrary the OP has nothing to worry about.
  • OP,

Can other members of your boyfriend's family (e.g his father or mother) put 'pressure' on this uncle to stop acting 'funny' ???
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • If the V5 doesn't establish owernship then what does? Someone else's opinion? It seems that's the situation here.
Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.
  • So did the uncle sign the car over to you? V5 does not prove ownship. On the other hand can the uncle prove ownship.

For the time being I would not involve other family members and see if you can sort it out between yourselves.
  • get your BF to make it not start then tell him to come and get it.
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • Thanks to all of you for your advice. Greatly appreciated.

In my opinion it seems that my boyfriends uncle is annoyed because he has no car to drive at the moment because he stupidly sold his car a week after my boyfriend did all the work on it, and bought another car off ebay, which has major problems (and he cant afford to pay for the parts)

It just makes me wonder what kind of family I am getting myself in to :(
