I believe with a little push, you've just answered your own question!

CCCS refer Northern Ireland cases to Grant Thornton in NI... for a fee of course!

Didn't know GT had associations with councils!

    Cheeky:D lol - No I'm not in Northern Ireland, I'm in England:rotfl:

No fee for us, whether it's agreed or not. Not sure if every council money advisor uses them but ours certainly does.

    Very helpful indeed

Sorry, I didnt mean you pay a fee. GT will obviously be paying someone a fee for having your work directed towards them! (In your case they'll have an agreement with the council or Money advisors - is that a CAB thing? - for Mia they'll pay a referal fee to CCCS).

It's strange that companies in NI do work for the whole of the UK but that mainland UK companies get cold feet about doing NI cases!

  • Not through CAB - just through the Council - we were directed from Housing Solutions as at the time our house was about to complete and we were going to end up with nowhere to go. As it was the sale fell through anyway but the Money Advisor has been so mega helpful:j

  • Hi Guys,

Well only got my call today a bit of a mixup at the office! Anyway tallked so much but hard to take all in, though I did come of the phone feeling a good bit better just for talking to someone. I will post my I&E below. They also sent me an email of documents I will need, though there is quite a few I don't have so going to be a bit of a nightmare and don't know if this will hold everything up! Can anyone tell me if these items will be toatally necessary? Thanks for any help.

    1. recent valuation of house, there is one 2 doors down for sale would there broucher do, i live in a row of about 25 terraced houses.

2.Bank statements, I destroy them as soon as I get them.

    3. Breakdown of monthly fuel costs? How do I show this?

    4. Contents Insurance I had cancelled a while ago, so if I set a new one up now will that be ok? Really do prefer to have it, just couldn't afford it.

5.Confirmation of any childcare costs, this is only £20pm to cover a babysitter maybe twice a month, will this have to go? Csn understand if it does!

    6. Tax credits/benefits I don't have this either plus to cut a long story short my husband and I have been seperated for the last 6-8 months for a number of reasons but debt being a major part in it. We are hoping to give it another go, so I had been claiming as a single parent and have had nothing from tax credits yet for my new award ie as a couple and from what I have read on here they can be a bit slow, so will waiting on them hold me back? Can they not just work this out for themselves.

Sorry for all the questions but just want to get things right in my head. Thank you

The items will be necessary to go on file but shouldn't delay your IVA.

    - House Valuation:
The brochure for two doors down should definitely be acceptable, but just keep an eye on what price the house actually sells for too... if it sells! This is just for an estimate now of how much equity might be available in four years time towards the end of your IVA.

    - Bank Statements:
This shouldn't hold up the process at all but remember to keep a few in future as they will need to go on file. Your IP can continue with the figures you tell him ACCURATELY but he'll want to verify them later too. (you could probably print off a few statements if you visited your local branch of the bank if your IP insisted). It's only really to verify figures though.

    - Monthly Fuel Costs: I don't why they're asking this... you're allowed £130 a month no bother! It could be as simple as saying I put £30 of diesel in my car every week! But try to think about all the necessary journeys you take in your car. Work, school run (what age is your child?) - what might be an issue is why is there so much Public transport too!? You could have to justify this or hide some of it... if you do neither it may be questioned by your creditors!

    - House Contents Insurance:
Yes, reinstate this immediately... it will be an acceptable allowance on your expenses so you're better to have cover just in case instead of not having it and paying the money over to you IP instead anyway.

    - Childcare £20 a month:
    You'll definitely be allowed this...

    - Tax Credits/Benefits
I've just gone and calculated this as about £30 a week so £130 or £140 is about right!

As for the I&E it seems reasonable! Just take note of what i've said at the point about fuel!

  • Hi Charco,

Thanks again for all your help, I have also sent you a PM to. Had a look at the I&E from the debt remedy I did with CCCS and when I look at the one from Grant Thornton I have noticed some items aren't on it so I'm wondering have they put these under travel expensies as maybe their form didn't have a place for these items, I will put down what I had and if you don't mind please tell me what you think.

  • Hi,

Hopefully I'm half way to getting my paperwork together, just have to wait on a few things. I posted all my letters to creditors and explained my circumstances and asked for them to suspend any action and fee's on accounts for 28 days while I seek advise and offered all creditors a token payment, now just waiting to hear back.

One thing I want to ask is two of my creditors are basically the same people but two different accounts. I emailed them to tell them of my circumsatances and offered a token payment, they got back to me and asked me to phone them. I replyed saying I would rather do it in writing as on the phone I might agree to something I will not be able to keep to. I didn't want them bullying me into something I can't do, I hate using the phone as it is and at least in writing you can digest things better. Anyway they then wrote back again saying I had to phone them! Do I?

Have another call tomorrow from Grant Thornton so see how that goes, was just told its letting us both know the consequences of IVA, Debt Management & Bankruptcy, from this information you choose which route we would both like to take. I will just be glad when its up and running :)
  • Oh something I have just noticed looking at my husbands payslip, he gets a £40 bonus each month for being at work and on time. If he is off sick or is late one day in the month he losses it, which is fair enough. Not that he's ever late as far as I'm aware and not sick too often but if he is its money we will be down that month. In our IVA will we just have to deal with it that month or do we put his wage down as £40 less per month and would the £40 be like if you did overtime 50% goes to your IVA and 50% you keep? If it all has to go into the IVA thats fine but just thought I would ask. Hope this makes sense :)

It's a conditional bonus so definitely leave it out... lucky you! If your hubby makes it to work every morning on time you've a £40 cushion!

It will fall (i'm sure) well under the 10%, 50/50 split rule as well so no worries there!

If GT don't see it this way then find another IP... stick to your guns though coz you're in the right... thems the rules!
