Ok here goes.....
I have an o2 simplicity sim.. 700 mins, 1400 texts, unlimited data, and o2 to o2 free. I would like an iphone 3gs. (thinking of buying one unlocked.) Don't want to change sim.
Will this sim work? not worried about unlimited wi-fi.
I was in Tescos and the girl there seemed to think I needed to change my tariff because (in her words) the data won't work. I thought you only needed to change settings on the Iphone.
Also if I bought one from tesco would the o2 sim work in it? (I would buy one on contract and use the contract sim in another phone)
The sales people said that it was locked to Tesco, but on the other hand seemed to imply that it "might" work without actually saying so.
Sorry if this is a repeat question but I am now wanting to buy something. Would prefer a 3 gs as I know it works with the bluetooth in my car.
Thanks everyone.

I have heard that UNLOCKED phones can only be bought from Apple store (or eBay in that case) but other shops, including Tesco are interested in getting the customer to stay with them (Tesco mobile) so thats why there phones are all locked to their networks. I wouldnt risk it. Buy one from the Apple store, if you want 100% guarantee it will work for you.0

I think it should work if you buy a PAYG sim. Even the phones locked to Tesco should work on O2 as Tesco uses O2 network. Best is get a phone, make sure you can return it. Try it, if it doesnt work, return it.0

You won't be able to use some of the iPhone's features, like visual voicemail, but data should work.
With regard to it being locked, this suggests that Tesco won't allow you to do it within 12 months. O2 allow pay monthly customers to unlock at any time but doesn't look like this extends to tesco customers.
If I were you, I'd get an o2 iPhone simplicity sim, same number of texts and minutes but allows features like visual voicemail to work - £20 a month, rolling monthly contract.0 -
don't want to change sim, not worried about visual voicemail, thanks for the replies0

Update, Santa brought me an early xmas pressie of an Iphone 4....am using my simplicity sim, no problem, was setup by the o2 Guru, in the o2 store in Belfast.. great guy, changed the sim over to a micro sim and it activated within minutes...he put the settings in and bingo it worked...I did speak to a Tesco Mobile sales person and they said the sim would not work... I have a 2007bmw with factory fitted bluetooth(not idrive just bluetooth) and it pairs in and shows the contacts, although when someone calls me their number doesn't show up so I don't know who is calling. and I can't listen to voice mail via bluetooth....on the whole a good job for £20 per month..just wish I could see the iphone4 manual on the apple website but apparently the file is damaged???0
