We are expecting to spend around 20k to power ours and daughters new house.
In my honest opinion the BQ thing is a joke

Niccy, you really do live in one of the windiest parts of the UK! (Many of the earliest wind turbines in the country were built on Orkney)

What turbine are you thinking of getting?

Yes Orkney is windy and I think it was 1981/82 I was involved in erecting a steel tower at Burger Hill (correct me if I spelt it wrong) on mainland Orkney. The tower was for carrying out feasibility studies for wind turbines. I think the site has now got some big turbines so the study must have proved the site as being worthy.

It's Burgar Hill, and yes it's one of the earliest sites in the country.

For info, you can see the most recent wind turbines up there on this site
http://www.orkneypics.com/webpage/page/page018.html as well as the WEG LS1 which is the huge concrete monstrosity! Can't see that getting planning permission nowadays :)

    Proven 6

Arhh and here lays the problem.

I went out this morning and took a picture of the new community turbine ( i didn't bother posting it but imagine a furled wind turbine) yes thats right "furled", why i hear you ask, because after being installed nearly a year ago, it has still to be commissioned. Why, simple, the company's are now too busy with bigger projects to complete the job  I kid you not.It has been reported in the press that company's are now concentrating on "big" projects and it is becoming harder, if not impossible for smaller projects to be started.

    Hi All,
I have posted before about my getting a Windsave home turbine. Well its all gone to pot as they have changed the 'footprint' of their mounting brackets
and I dont hve enough gree are on the only place i can mount it.

Thanks to all on this thread for their info it looks as if I have had an narrow escape as far as getting a returns is concerned.

I am now going to see if I can get a reimbursement of my planning fees as my initial survey said I would be ok and they have now changed the spec.

I will let you know how I get on.

    niccy,

It's a shame that Proven, who have a good name for their products, is getting a bad name for their service - Uk manufacturing committing suicide again.

How about building your own, Hugh Piggott is up your way, isn't he? Try the otherpower.com discussion board for ideas. It seems you would have to look after your turbine, anyway - judging by what you say, I can't see Proven rushing out to service a broken turbine. You might as well build it yourself, then you will know how to look after it.

Just don't buy a bloody Windsave turbine, whatever you do.

Proven are in the process of being bought by Siemens as Mr Proven has MS. Don't know what that will do to service though but it maybe means that some mass production techniques will be used. They are moving to a brand new factory as well.
