Freecycle for babies?

Hi guys
I've just found out I'm pregnant with no2 :j
First time round we spent a fortune and last night as we were looking at cots I couldn't quite get as excited at the thought of spending £200 on a cot like I did with the 1st.
I have considered putting an ad on Freecycle- I have only used it for giving stuff away so far- and wondered if anyone had any success? Or should I just resign myself to spending again???
Thanks
KK

Firstly congratulations :T:T
Am curious as to why you don't have your cot from last time? I used the same cot for all three of mine, just changing the mattress between 2 and 3.
Do you have any friends / family you could borrow a cot from and buy a new mattress ? I think I would rather it came from someone I knew but that's just me0 -
Hi- thanks
I do have the cot but my DD is still in it (it's a cotbed)
Yes I would probably prefer to know where it has come from but I am the 1st of my friends and family to have a baby and as I'm expecting my 2nd I have 4 friends expecting their 1st so not an option0 -
Ebay. Put in your postcode here and the tool lists things in your area for collection (also amend the search within Ebay to closest first rather than time etc). http://www.localbargainfinder.co.uk/ At least this one reduces the cost slightly with collection rather than postage; although some will post a cot/cradle/pushchair etc so don't discount those!
The only thing I haven't bought from Ebay for my kids over the years are mattresses and car seats - they are always new (or re-used from my own previous child)0 -
Could you buy a bed for your eldest and use the cot bed for the new baby? Your older one will need a bed at some point anyway.
Beds are always on our freecycle but not so many cots. You'd only need to buy new mattresses that way.0 -
When I read the title I thought it might be about freecycling babies - and I wondered if they did this for teenagers too?
I've a moody, stroppy 13 year old who eats loads and hates being told what to do - any offers please?:rotfl:
It's only a game

I said this to OH and he thinks it's cruel 'turfing' (as he put it) out of her bed... she does love her bed though
TBH I know he'll end up buying a brand new one I just thought we might be able to do things differently this time!0 -

But it would not be cruel if you made a big thing of her moving into a big girl bed....and did it in advance of the baby arriving so the two do not go together. This is what we did when I was due with DD2.0 -

I do understand but I do think it depends on how old your eldest will be by the time you need to cot. Presumably if you've just found out you are pregnant you have several months until baby number 2 arrives and if s/he is in a moses basket or crib initially (mine were for about 12 weeks) then you are looking at a year from now before you need to 'turf' DD out of her bed, by which time she could love the idea of a new 'big girls' bed. DD1 was not quite 2 when I had DD2 and she loved not sleeping in a baby's bed anymore.0 -
Try the NCT nearly new sales which are basically a big sale of good quality second hand baby stuff. I got a mama's & papa's cot for £25 that was in perfect condition.
