Hi
I'd like to pick all your brains please?
I have been very lucky and acquired a rocking chair, which I want to put in my kitchen/ diner/ snug area. The chair will be well used.
It's probably 1970's dark wood, and I want to paint it cream. I've done a small chest of drawers before in Autentico chalk paint & waxed it.
It looks fine (ish) was for the spare room so its okay in there, and it doesn't get much use, and certainly nothing continually is being put on top of it.
I have plenty of Autentico left, and it's in the right colour.
How can I make this more hard wearing, it will be sat on everyday, and probably rocked by the kids. It's also sitting on my nice (expensive) wooden floor, I know DH would half kill me if flakes of chalk paint came off the rockers.
Done the rubbing down & sugar soap today, will start of a coat of primer tomorrow morning, and hopefully another later in the day etc.
Would it be best to put mat varnish on as the last coat-after chalk paint??
Help!:j0 -
I use Wilko clear matt varnish (water based quick dry) for added durability over chalk paint, tho' never done a rocker. You could use gloss paint in matt whatever they call it nowadays - ages since I bought any paint!
Maybe a little rug under the rocker? I have some rag rugs that are quite cute and I wash them occasionally.0 -
I have almost finished chalk painting then varnishing a wooden rocker. I have stuck on to the rockers - foam discs/pads as I will use it in my craft room - laminate floor. I use the Wilko clear matt varnish - giving it 4 coats. Photos soon.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Ohh, Thank you chalky.
Do you mean this type of paint?

I don't want it to look shinny, but then it needs to be durable.
As I can't start any priming until tomorrow, I'm sewing.
Found a tartan throw in a charity shop, almost looks like the type someone would have put over their legs in the car in the old days.
It's quite big, making a cushion for rocker, and a smaller rug/throw to fold and frappe over the arm.
Just need to paint the bloody thing now, and feel pleased with the outcome!!

that Wickes paint looks promising, but I've never used it. I think several rather than just one coat of varnish like Flo said is a good idea.
Put some pics up when your done0
