Looks great - well done. Feel ashamed - I did nothing except pay for my new kitchen! :o
Well - I am making the blind. I am still sorting out in my kitchen - so many boxes to unpack. As we are having lots done on the house - dust everywhere. :(
Electricians here yesterday - making holes - putting in new sockets and fixing lights.
Kitchen/bathroom man - took the bathroom out today - he has made the downstairs cloakroom usable. Garden looks like a builder's yard. Bathroom floor was found to need replacing when carpet came up today - more expense. :(

i am new too this/these threads and there is so much too go through it will take days too digest.
i am hoping that some of you could suggest some paint brands and its type rather than me have too skim each page trying to find small snippets.
i want to go through the thread but would like to start pricing up paint now.
i intend doing several bits of furniture.
i know many websites including here state farrow and ball but to be honest i think the prices for this paint is ridiculous, i am hoping there are more sensible paint i can use at least to get going with and when i know what i am doing and move to bigger and more valuable pieces maybe i would be prepared too buy this expensive paint.
any general start up advice would be good, i have half an intention of doing this as a hobby come second income but dont really want to splash large amounts right away.
i am in the building trade and can do most jobs so i am not a complete novice just think it might be a nice hobby/job.
i also know that you should buy the best materials for the job which i insist on in my trade but i also know that the dearest is not necessarily mean best in fact it rarely does imo.
    thanks in advance.

where furniture is concerned I often use any old brand I have on hand, but my favourite is Annie Sloan Chalk paint - £17.95 a litre. I make my own chalk paint with emulsion and plaster of paris, very little difference to ready made. This gives a rustic shabby chic look.

Try looking on peoples blog pages for more info - Emma Kate has some painted furniture in different types of paint, different paint for different styles/effects. The blog Barrister's Horse has some good examples and photos of what happens when you do what - and what sells.

You can search on pinterest for tutorials on painted furniture - some have very detailed photos of using x paint and x wax/glaze/varnish.

I'm another "stores own" user when it comes to paint. I simply cannot afford (and am far to tight) to pay Farr0w and baII prices. I've recently used Hbase own satin finish for woodwork paint and it covered fantastically, the wet colour wasn't promising but it dried to the exact shade on the colour chart. I've also used a Wlckes chalk finish paint recently that's covered nicely. wLlkos paints seem to be good but my local store doesn't always have a very good range.

A basic matt emulsion will do as an undercoat for most things (depending on surface). I use mini rollers where I can as it gives a much better paint finish but brushes work well for a more rustic/shabby finish too.

Find yourself a bit of furniture, grab an old can of paint from the shed and have a go! If you don't like it, strip it back and start again! You'll be hooked.

    thanks pooky and chalkysoil.
i will look into all you have wrote and have been having a google read around this morning.
i am in the process of trying to explain to the wife that we dont necessarily need farrow and ball, i think this will be slower work than the actual painting.

Been out shopping - got the Plaster of Paris from HobbyC... and a paint brush from Wick... I didn't know what sort or size to get - ended up buying a 1 inch synthetic brush - is that okay?

What ever feels comfortable in your hand. I painted the exterior of my house with a small brush which men tell me is wrong but I can't cope with large brushes. 1'' sounds good for furniture.
