Wow, thanks for that! Might have to try crochet again - not done any for around 40 years! Last thing I crocheted was a bright turquoise shopping bag for a Christmas present for my Gran! It wasn't the most successful thing I've made as it stretched ridiculously as soon as you put anything in it, changed from being shopping bag size to Santa's Sack size! :o But I still have it somewhere, when I think of it might make a good laundry sack!

  • Hi all, been looking at the posts for ages and not done anything :(
I am not at all creative but would like to have a go at something. Anyway have just aquired a small dining chair that i would like to shabby for a bedroom. The wooden bars under the chair are all loose and need to be stuck. Should i stick them first and then rub down or visa versa? I want to paint the chair white or cream, will just rubbing down with sandpaper be ok? Thank you for reading, Linda

Hi, It doesn't really make any difference if you glue the bars before or after you give the chair a sand. If you use the chalk paint we all go on about on here, you don't need to sand at all. Just sugar soap it and paint. There are recipes for home made CP on here and work out MUCH cheaper than buying it. Good luck!

You must have seen my crochet then. :rotfl:
I have a granny blanket that I did for my mum many years ago and when she laid it on the bed it had a big hill in the middle. She loved it though and it stayed on her bed for many years and I have it still.

I am not sure what containers I have that I could use for this but it looked like a cool idea and I think that even I could manage to do a few lines of crochet and the handle.
I thought that it might make a good basket for an indoor plant if I added some decoupage roses to the outside of a white plastic pot.

btw I love this thread, you guys have made some amazing stuff. Thanks for telling me about it jj.

Ronseal Outdoor Varnish CLEAR SATIN 750ml

    Anyone else used this?

I bought this as clear. I was a bit concerned to see the varnish was dark brown in the tin but assumed something would happen in use, the way the milky indoor varnish becomes clear.

I have tonight coated a cream painted wooden item which has turned BROWN.

Any advice on a clear matt or satin waterproof varnish that really is clear. I expect things to darken but it's coffee coloured now. :(

could the particular tin you used be faulty?
Every description I've read emphasises the clear aspect, and on the product website it specifically says it won't darken wood

perhaps you should contact the company to double check?
