I've been reading this thread from start to finish & enjoyed seeing everyones projects & photos! I started upcycling old furniture in June and I am addicted!! I have been using both ASCP and a chalk paint recipe I found online, to make up my own....recently made over this old dark pine dresser and was pleased with the end result...even more so when someone asked me if I would sell it! Gone to a new home now, and I have a load of auction finds, just waiting to get started on :0)

Got this old drop leave table & four chairs at auction for £10....sanded the table top (my hubby did that, don't think he trusts me with his sander! ), stripped back the chairs and gave the frames a fresh coat of black paint, and loved the result! Planned to recover the chair seats, but they are concave not flat, so gave up on that & just painted them black as well...varnished the chairs & waxed the table top.

Thank you Emma Kate! I have been crafting for years, and love trying new things, but I just can't believe how easy the furniture painting is when there is little preparation to do :0)
I did the dresser with homemade chalk paint and I found it easy to use...though I mixed up a large quantity at first, and like the ASCP, it thickens when left to stand, so just making smaller amounts now just as I need it. I thought the ASCP was expensive when I bought it, but it does go a long way especially when it thickens and you can add water to it ...I have done 5 pieces and still have half a tin left!Cazo1:wave:0 -
Thank you Lucy*locket! I don't have a blog for the furniture projects as yet...just added it to my facebook page along with the other things I do :0) I have been reading every blog about chalk paint & furniture upcycling, that I can find (there are lots of amazing bloggers out there) I had some interest from lovely people locally, asking would I do home based workshops in the other crafts I do....hence the Craft Studio was created recently! As I am new to the painting, was just going to continue enjoying just doing that for myself, but I am amazed just how many people are interested in either seeing how to do it, or wanting pieces upcycled for them, so have included that in the workshops too. My daughter-in-law will be helping me with that as she has discovered a talent for it!lucy*locket wrote: »love your work Cazo, just looked at your Facebook page.......perhaps you could start a blog, would really enjoy reading more about your projects! t

Hey emma kate, I'm enjoying discovering new blogs at the moment like yours, very inspiring and I'm picking up lots of ideas. Boot sales tomorrow, let's hope I find some bargains! x0 -
Bought this chair in a charity shop a few weeks ago, for £4...it was a lacquered pine colour finish, with a tapestry fabric seat. Painted it with my own chalk type paint and recovered the seat in Cath Kidston strawberry duck fabric. The upholstery was a challenge, as first time I did it, I had the staples too far out and they showed underneath the frame when I put the seat back on....being a neat freak :0) I took the staples out again and redid it & got a better result. Also varnished over the paint as a chair will get more wear & tear.....

Hi
Been reading this thread with interest and loving all the fab photos, hoping someone can help, I want to paint some furniture to be used in a bedroom, its a old dark wood corner unit and some pine chest of drawers and wardrobe, the pine wardrobe sides are mdf but the chest is all solid.
I want them to be White and don't want them to be distressed looking, what is the best paint to use ( want the easiest way to do them) I was thinking of Annie sloan chalk paint but am worried it will be too matt I don't want them glossy but not dull, do I need to use wax after painting or a type of varnish?
This is the first time I've done anything like this and want to do it right first time, thanks in advance for any advice, I am grateful x0
