Yay it worked, this is it all finished, the top was sanded and varnished and the legs and chairs were painted in one of the 1829 paints and then varnished.

These are our best car boot bargains ever, both chairs for £1 :D
    They've gone from this
    chairs.jpg

    to this
    chairs1.jpg

We've done them for the children's bedrooms, hence the different fabrics :)
They were painted in Annie Sloan old white and the material is Clarke & Clarke :j:j
More wonderful make overs - did you also make the Home Sweet Home?
Can I ask what staple gun you used for the chair covers please - also was removing the existing covers difficult ?

    long time lurker....

I recovered the chairs in our second-hand dining room suite a couple of years ago. I didn't remove the existing cover as the seat padding and cover was in a good condition, I put the seat face down in the material and then cut around it about two inches away from the edge - this gave enough overlap to staple. I used a stapler I bought in Homebase for around £5. I was very pleased with the result - they looked as if they were brand new! :)

I did think about not removing the old covers but I think as the new fabric is quite thick - there would be too much bulk.

    Thank you :)
The home sweet home was from Next, but have seen some fab stuff where people use things like scrabble letters and frame them, wouldn't mind having a go at something like that.
The old covers came off really easily, we then just used the wooden seat base that was already there and got some foam seat pads off ebay, cut them to size and then put the fabric over (doing the striped fabric was a nightmare as the lines would easily go out of shape as soon as you put any tension on the fabric)
DH is out at the moment, but when he gets back I'll ask him about the staple gun, it was a big silver one :D I think we could have done with a bigger one really as the fabric was fairly thick, then going into the wood it was a bit of a pain.

Thanks for the help. The staples in DD's chairs are really well in the wood frames - I did mange to get under a couple and pull them out with pliers but there are SO many staples in each chair. The staples are holding on the fabric plus they have stapled on a separate cotton tape to cover the first lot of staples.

Some lovely shabby chic ideas here

Also, I have a friend who has her mother's bed linen c1950s. Where can she sell them? She's not an ebayer so would be a new seller, which I think counts against her - is that right?

Vintage bed linen seems to sell well on ebay - one tip, don't say linen
if the fabric is actually cotton as some people are looking for linen fabric sheets. Not sure about new person status, I imagine the ebay thread would have more answers to that one. Other options for selling would be the Preloved and Gumtree sites - you tend to be dealing with more local buyers but there are less fees to pay.

Hello everyone May I please join?

We moved house in december and while we have spent everything we had on ripping out the awful bathroom, our poor kitchen has recieved no love :(
and now we have no money left, this is what it looks like this isnt ours but a good likeness kitchen.jpg

lots & lots of oak not solid, wood cupboards, a oak wood floor and fabulous fruit & veg tiles ... one murual by the hob and lots of random veg /fruit tiles dotted around266.jpg

Its also has fake narrow 'beams' painted brown along the celling,

do you think painting the cupboards would be a disaster, My husband would take some convincing but its so dull & dark,

Im abit scared to start incase I make it look worse!

any tips? also the previous owners have painted-badly a sicky yellow/beige over wallpaper which is peeling.. a trend throughout the whole house..

I forgot to add, I love shabby vintage style but maybe this is the wrong vintage!
