I would look to cannibalise something ... maybe a frame from 99p store or xmas decs, it's all the same when it's glued on then painted.

    Yes! Thank you! :T

Chalky, yes that mirror is gorgeous, and I like your idea of cannibalising. Silly me gave a load of Xmas decs away just recently, as I was decluttering.

Hi I have been reading through the whole thread and it has inspired me to do something with our dinning table and chairs as was going to buy new but if I can make these look nice I might as well save some money.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what I could do with them I was unsure weather to paint or stain them

This is the same as our table

Yay it worked, this is it all finished, the top was sanded and varnished and the legs and chairs were painted in one of the 1829 paints and then varnished.

These are our best car boot bargains ever, both chairs for £1 :D
    They've gone from this

We've done them for the children's bedrooms, hence the different fabrics :)
They were painted in Annie Sloan old white and the material is Clarke & Clarke :j:j

Some lovely shabby chic ideas here

Also, I have a friend who has her mother's bed linen c1950s. Where can she sell them? She's not an ebayer so would be a new seller, which I think counts against her - is that right?

    what a lovely blog
I do not iron the sheets after washing them either... : )
I love that sort of rumpled look.

I think it makes the couches look even more inviting to sit on....

My Yd has four chairs with fabric covered seats - I think it is Ik.. furniture. She asked me if I can recover the seats as they are dirty. You unscrew the seat to remove from the chair. Eventually YD is going to buy new dining furniture so I don't want to do too much work on these chairs. We got some spotted oil cloth /PVC type remnants. My questions are - there are loads of staples holding on the old fabric - best thing/way to remove them - I have looked online- saw some tools but need idea on which to buy. YD bought home from school - a staple remover - it was flimsy - frightened I would break it - staples are really well in the wood. Also what make/sort of staple gun is best please? I plan to use the old fabric as a pattern - never covered chair seats before!

    long time lurker....

I recovered the chairs in our second-hand dining room suite a couple of years ago. I didn't remove the existing cover as the seat padding and cover was in a good condition, I put the seat face down in the material and then cut around it about two inches away from the edge - this gave enough overlap to staple. I used a stapler I bought in Homebase for around £5. I was very pleased with the result - they looked as if they were brand new! :)
