    Hi danemi

I got some of the cup handles you described/pictured on ebay last year when I re-did my kitchen. They were 99p each and then a couple of quid postage. Brand new with all fixings. Look lovely on the drawers of my newly revamped kitchen. Cupboard doors/drawer fronts/plinths were from a mahoosive deal at B&Q last September. They were selling off cooke and lewis doors etc from several different ranges. I got a lovely country cream style for £65! That was for 10 doors, 3 drawers, plinths and edging tape! Got lucky on the Grabbit board one evening and ran around like a mad woman trying to measure all units etc. before the website sold out!

I also got some matching door handles but they are a more traditional bar handle, also off ebay.

    Good luck with the refurb.

Our build price for the basics (no flooring or anything like that) is £62k so we are keeping a close eye on the budget but I have a pic in my mind and I want it to look like that too. I'm not sure how long we will stay in this house so it neees to look really good. The house is in high price bracket so the kitchen has to suit the house IYKWIM. If If could get away with Ikea I would believe me.

Everything costs so much doesnt it - to be honest I am happy buying from Ikea - just wish they did one that was raw so you could paint it yourself - you can have the most expensive kitchen units but it is about how you put the whole thing together isnt it.

Are you going to go with the company you mentioned - you will have to share the piccies with us once its done - we are still finalising our ideas at the mo - am sat here with the lappy trawling the internet this afternoon looking for ideas/ At least we have a layout plan now! It all takes so much planning doesnt it!

You could always get Ikea units with doors etc that are plain white and then paint them with specialist melamine paint or prime with liquid sandpaper or similar and then use ordainary paint.
The cheapest doors could be used as I understand that all their carcasses are the same and undergo the same quality testing.

I have thought about it but not sure how hardy they would be with two children in the house - worried the paint would chip - think they may fair better if the wood was raw and I could prime it - eeek not sure

We're almost certainly going with them but it will be a while before it's done. The extension is likely to be finished at the end of August / beginning of September. Then once the floor is tiled we are going to use that as the family room whilst we get the family room decorated (parquet floor relaid, fire changed, replastered etc). This will cover the 10 week wait whilst they make the kitchen cupboards which will take us into November. Seems ages away but we'll get there.

    hi danemi

I will try to put some pics up. I don't have before pics, but suffice to say it was a 1980s special! Good news was great base units, so no need to replace.

Yes, the doors were my best ever deal on MSE yet! New, they should have cost over £1000!

Just couldn't afford that. Didn't replace worktops or tiles, but they were in good condition, and not offensive!:)

Excuse the old cooker, if I had replaced the worktops, I would have replaced it too!

Danemi in my last house I had a white gloss kitchen with oak worktops and slate floors, I had quite a few shabby accessories, and the walls painted white, with one wallpaper in a lovely simple floral pattern, it looked gorgeous. I was annoyed with myself when we moved here as I had requested an oak kitchen, and I really regret it. Its lovely, but just not modern enough for my taste, and doesn't actually lend itself to the shabby look at all. Its nice, don't get me wrong, but the last one was so much more modern looking.
