morning after pill

Hi, can anyone tell me if the morning after pill is available at any pharmacy and how much it's likely to cost please?

Thanks in advance.

It should be available at most pharmacies and costs about £25. You can get it free on prescription from your GP.
  • you can take it up to 72 hours after unprotected sex, so you have time to see your GP.

If you are under 19 you may be able to get it free from the pharmacy if you have a no worries card.

There is some information here http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relationships/facts/morningafterpill.htm

Seems it is cheaper now than it used to be if you do end up paying for it.

I was quite amused by the phrase in that article that said the pharmacist will want to counsel you. When I used I was asked if I was already pregnant or breast feeding. When I answered no to both questions it was sold to me with just a comment to see my GP if my period didn't start within three weeks.

this is muh friendlier than my experience - my pharmasist had me in a seperate room, and grilled me for about 10 minutes, then because I am a bit overweight asked me if I was pregnant, gesturing at my tummy  I said no, I'm just fat. I wasn't impressed with her attitude, I was 21 at the time, and had been using both the Pill and a condom (which split, and I was sick.. talk about cirumstances being against me!!) and with my fiance, not just some one night stand. She talked as if I had been stupid, but I thought I was doing the responsible thing coming her to be sure. It's an experience I NEVER want to repeat, so now I have the implant util me and the hubby decide to have kids :)
  • Oh blimey! I hope they'll let me just buy it without her being there!

I think you are probably best to claim it is for you.

Just tell them its for you, you are not pregnant, do not want to be and are not breast feeding.

However, I hope you will talk this through with her and make sure she is not in one of the at risk groups and it is safe for her to take. All the instructions are with the tablet and I personally had absolutely no effects at all but if you are going to get it for her you will need to be the one making sure she is okay.

Usually, they want you to take it in front of them. It's just one pill now, not two, and they want to make sure you take it properly
