I'll join
I've let my OS slip a little in the last few months, although now we've moved house I'm getting back into it. I've started planning a homemade, crafty Christmas and have been ebaying and did a car boot a few weeks ago. Still on my declutter mission!
I'm going about it a slightly different way though...we're doing up our new home shabby-chic style on a very small budget (luckily OH is INCREDIBLY handy!) with a view to selling it and moving a step closer to our old style country house. We're both in the property game already - he's a landlord with a few properties, and I've bought and sold and just rented my first out. I think living 'up north' certainly helps, but we also live on incredibly small budgets and get by pretty cheaply.0 -
With the price of country houses these days, you'll need a bit more than OS living, you'll need a darn good pay packet as well0

great! nice to have a companion on the way, so thankyou bibbitybob:jsounds like you have your plan pretty sussed! how lucky you are to be on the property ladder and in that position.
i`ve just popped on you blog, so am going to read through that tomorrow to see if i can steal any tips lol.
ive listed a few things on ebay tonight, some things from decluttering the house and also a few handcrafted bits so fingers crossed. i was thinking about seeing if i could tempt some family members to buy a few things from me this xmas rather than there usual places, ie i can make pickled onions, xmas cake and mince pies etc might be worth a try to make some extra pennies. One day I will live in a cabin in the woods0 -
cfc, everyone needs a dream;), i no everything is expensive these days epecially rural farm houses (and down here:eek:) all i can do is try, i feel i owe it to myself and to my kids,
i dont want them going through life thinking thats to hard so why bother. but also you cant go through life thinking ill do it when i win the lottery. i think if you want something in life, go for it:D and yes a big wage packet would really help, but as i decided to be a stay at home mum, i will have to save what i can until all kids are in school, you never no oneday my craft might turn into a business:cool:

Sign me up!
I think it may take a lottery win or a series of best selling novels to get me the country cottage I dream of. Getting on the housing ladder at all seems far off for DH and I at the moment! We're saving towards a deposit but DH's job is very uncertain at the moment (as are a lot of people's) and we may need to use the money for paying rent & bills if anything happened.
I aim to create a notebook listing all the things I want in my country cottage. It's partly a visualisation thing but I feel that, if I can clarify what I want then I may find it easier to get it!
I've nearly finished the first draft of the series of best selling novels (think positive...!) Having a baby (DS is only 4 months old) delayed its completion but I aim to finish it off with NaNoWriMo this year & then it's major re-writes but hey, I'll get there, they'll sell in their millions and I'll get my cottage... some day!0 -
We are incredibly lucky that we found our OS dream house when houseprices were down so we are in it (but want to actually own more of it, I think we may own the kitchen at present lol) BUT we really want to buy the small field next door so we can have a huge veg garden and some fruit trees etc. Put our chickens on there in a huge run etc etc. So count me in!!
Savings start big time in November and we are making jars of things for xmas hampers as well as some sweets etc rather than buying pressies, so hopefully, December won't bite our budget.0 -
Hi everyone,
This sounds like fun. I'd like a country place as a holiday home, there I said it! Not sure how I'd afford two places but this thread has got me thinking.
I remember reading on another thread a good idea that this woman said about. She carried a small picture of her dream house in her purse so every time she was tempted to seriously fritter cash she looked at this picture. Interesting huh?Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

thats a really good idea:T some visual motivation would be good, must find a picture to do the same. i think it would be good for encouraging the family aswell as it`s going to be a long old saving plan:eek:One day I will live in a cabin in the woods0 -
There is the "Daydream challenge fund" thread on Greenfingers (?) board here, which is a similar wish for the daydream property (mostly with a smallholding element to it).
I need to get my head properly around what I need to build up for this plan (I have my name on that list, but still haven't even put some figures together properly). And have a proper plan for THIS fund, rather than just having it part of the general savings. And put the plan in place to DO the crafts in my head, and put the money I make from those away.
We'll get there.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897
GC 2011:Overall Target: €6,000/ €5,442 by October
Back on the wagon again in 2014
Apr €587.82/€550 May €453.31 /€5500 -
