Cheap Hotels in New York?

Hiya,

Me and the missus are heading off to New York for a week at the end of October and need to find somewhere to stay.

We've been hoping to use Priceline to get the Hyatt on the Hudson cheaply but we're having no luck :(

Anyone have any suggestions as to where we can stay cheapily, preferably under $100 a night? I'm not overly fussed about the hotel, as we won't spend much time in it; as long as it's clean and isn't in the ghetto then that's ok!

I'm starting to think we've left it too late and I'm gonna end up spending a fortune :(

Cheers folk!

  • GF and I are flying Dublin to New York on October 30th and have booked a hostel in Times Square.

We're staying for 2 days before heading to Newark for our connecting flight up to Toronto where we are emigrating. :D

A friend of my GF's travels the New York route frequently (GF works on the airlines and he's a work colleague) and he said that some of the hostels are better than the hotels!

We've booked one on Times Square but I don't know the name of it offhand, will have to ask.

He said to try and get one central as the others are a taxi ride or so out the way so it costs a bit of money to get to them.

Try looking up hostels, they are great, have stayed in plenty and they are safe and clean. :)

can you recommend a good central hostel?

are they of the same sort of quality as a motel?

  • I'll ask GF which one it is and pass on the info. All I know is it's in Times Square as I didn't book it. Will keep you informed. :)
  • i just put in the last week in october and ouch ....they had a hotel latham with venere (some guy posts a discount code on here for venere) with this site
    http://www.hotelscomparison.com/
you'll have to do your homework with tripadvisor
the prices seemed extremely steep but may be better with actual dates
  • Why don't you try HOSTELBOOKERS.COM i know you may think dingy student dive, but you could be mistaken, some of their accomodation is very good, you can even get private en suite roooms , in very central locations
:money: i allways wondered how every one put a message here, MY LIFE IS NOW COMPLETE!!!

When do you need to book? I've got a mate out there right now and he's trying two different hostels. He is staying here on his return next weekend so if his stay there was pleasant I'll post back here with details.

What dates are you arriving\departing in New York?

What have you bid so far for New Jersey?
  • Try this place $100 for a private room for 2 (shared bathroom though)

Most of the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com are pretty good.

Big Apple Hostel also has decent reviews on trip advisor and is $95 for a private room (shared bathroom again)

Thanks for the posts so far, I will look into some of the places mentioned shortly. The dates we are looking for are 26th -31st October, and on Priceline so far I have bid up to £50 per night for a 3* in Jersey City with no success.

Rates at the Hyatt are very high for those dates
Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday
    2 Double Beds

    440.00 269.00 269.00 335.00 369.00 369.00 369.00
The best time to bag this hotel is at the weekend (Fri-Sun incl) when rates usually fall to <$200.

Hotwire has it at over $300 for those nights too, so not looking good :( at present.
