Perhaps search on line for an independent car hire company that may accept hard cash $ as a deposit.

There are plenty of taxi companies in Fort Lauderdale and the attractions aren't too far from the airport FLL.

Please delete the !!!!!!, it ain't appreciated and ain't nice to other moneysavers.

Because when your BANCRUPT, you cannot get credit cards, so therefore even though i work and have plenty of £££ and pay X, Y and Z for this and that, i am unable to get a credit card, hence asking for anyone who reads this who has done what i am asking using DEBIT and Prepaid cards...

No offense guys, but your replys are based around simple facts, the kind which are totally useless when someone is asking a specific question..... (and i know all about cashplus and sterling, the cards most of the pre-paid buyers avoid!)

If a moderator sees this thread, please delete/remove it as its been ruined now !!!!!!..

why did you not say you were declared bankrupt to begin with , supply all the facts and you will get a better answer ?

I'd assumed there was a reason behind not having a credit card. I recently completed an IVA so I'm familiar with the issues ... and yes I'm aware BR is different.

However, as far as I know certain credit card companies (Capital One for instance) will consider applications 12 months after bankruptcy. Assuming this didn't happen yesterday and you're going away next year this could be an option.

Otherwise I'd negotiate with a local hire company when you're there although they'll need a deposit one way or another.

    p.s. don't shot the messenger !!

This thread has soooooooo come off the original topic!

If a question is: Can you use a debit card to hire a car.... Why would i need to state whether i am bancrupt or not ? How does that help in finding out whether i can hire a car using a debit card ??

    Cheers Max, i'm with u there :):)

Seriously though, the only question was, can you hire a car using a Visa Debit card as opposed to using a visa/mastercard credit card....
Paying a deposit is expected and am well cool with that, it was just a question to see whether they accept the Visa Debit card when they take there deposit :)
For example, i know Alamo allow this, but there cars are a bit bland... I have since found Budget dont like anything but credit cards, so Hertz or Avis..........., trying to see if anyone used them before and used there Visa Debit card for the security/deposit bit? :) Car is paid for upfront over here, but for anyone who hires abroad, you always get the 'buy this insurance or leave a credit card deposit' kinda thing.......
Just trying to cover my options you see... :A
