  • Have you tried on tradtitional white dresses? A friend of mine was gonig to wear a pretty pink dress until someone convinced her to try one on. She stood in front of the mirror looking like a disney princess for about half an hour going "ooooooh" and just had pink flowers instead. It's like they put "bride-nip" in the seam of those dresses or something!

Made me giggle for a while too! Maybe that's the solution though - anyone know where I can find some groom-nip? :rotfl:

    Oh wait, that's beer... :p

I'm going to make my own dress, and have a design in my head (almost matched by an actual dress pattern that exists - woohoo!) so have not really considered bridal shops. I might go round a couple though, just to make sure I like what I think I do, if you know what I mean! I have been bookmarking pictures of real brides (as opposed to models) looking gorgeous in their colourful dresses, so will let you know how I get on.

  • i really think you should try at least 2 on in different styles. You just don't know how you'll feel until you're in one.

Plus, a lot of them will have purple in them. My dress at my first wedding was ivory but the top had loads of tiny purple and irredesant (sp?) beads on it.

  • Surely the person you most want to look good for on your wedding day is your husband?

Of course, but I'd also like to wear what makes me feel best. I'm a little uncomfortable with the inference that I should be dressing purely for my husband; it smacks a little of a bygone decade to me! My original post was asking for advice on how to find out the strength of my H2B's feelings, ie whether he would be genuinely disappointed not to see me in white on our wedding day, or whether he has not had enough experience of brides wearing colour to realise that wearing white is now optional. It was not a "should I go against his wishes or not?" poll.

My XH would have said 'do what you like' and if I did he'd then not be happy but just stew over it....my Oh now says what he means usually so when he says he's fine with me wearing whatever I like he better be serious as I'm planning on wearing purple myself :)

But she should be comfortable and he should be happy.

If it was based solely on what my OH liked I'd be walking down the aisle nude :rotfl:

Haha! Mine too, and he'd have me carrying a bouquet of beer bottles - full, naturally... :D
