Consumerist, they're only lulling you into a false sense of security. You'll probably get letters in a few months detailing your unauthorised overdraft for covering the underpayment fees!

If you are referring to my recent closure, I am waiting for a cheque for the closing balance so I will know that the account is really closed or I won't receive it and then I will be chasing them for it.

Having a small closing balance is a good way to verify closure when you receive the cheque or non-closure if you don't.

I really hope this works for you but there have been some reports . . .

There is a good chance that the cost of the phone call, anyway, was more than the Recorded Delivery letter (£1.06 by 2nd-class, if I remember correctly).

OK. Today I got a letter confirming closure of the linked savings account. Just waiting for the cheque for the Premierr account's closing balance.

They're taking their time but so far, so good.

My accounts are still showing as unavailable on internet banking, so here's hoping! I was told I'd get a letter in 7-10 days, and if I dont get it, Im getting straight on the phone! I also left a small balance, so should hopefully get a cheque soon too. :j

Just checked online banking, statements for both accounts now show "Account Closure £x.xx credited to xx-xx-xx xxxxxxxx" so they've withdrawn my balances to another account. I assume this is a holding account before they issue my closing cheque?

That is consistant with what others have seen in the forum and what I also hope to see shortly.

    Congrats
Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.

OK. So I've now received my cheque for the A&L Premier account's closing balance and confirmation of closure.

My closing balance, too, was transferred to an unknown account number soon after giving notice of closure.

It looks, to me, that they have been busy printing cheques lately; the amount of my cheque had printed-out so faintly that I wasn't sure my bank would accept it as legible. Hope it doesn't bounce when processed.

I came home from work today to find 2 envelopes from Santander each containing a cheque and confirmation of account closure for my Premier Direct and plus saver account!!

For all the slagging off they take, Im quite impressed, as they did what they said, confirmation of closure within 10 days, I think they might be getting their act together! :T

    Great !

Yes, perhaps Santander are finally getting the message from their customers.

I cannot escape having misgivings regarding the up and coming integration with RBS. Let's hope it won't be a case of "Here we go again ! ".

Thanks for keeping us all updated. Guess that's a wrap then - see you on the trail.
