You know the regulator for telecoms really needs to step in and make this a level playing field where people are only charged the rate as advertised and not the telecoms operators own rate, its just too complicated at the moment. There has been far too much de-regulation in this country (banking crises etc) and its always in the interest of the corporate world and not the consumer.0

You are charged the rate as advertised by your supplier. Their is no set rate for calls to non geo numbers or even geographical ones come to that.
On responsible websites offering cheap intl calls via 0844/0871 numbers they clearly indicate the rates are from a BT line, and to check what your suppliers charges. As do the MSE callcheckers.0 -
Well page 33 of this document explicitly says that G22 calls are 0 p per min with min charge 10.9p.
http://broadband.o2.co.uk/downloads/O2_Home_Phone_Price_List.pdf
However, I should add here that is in addition to connection charge. So calls to G22 band numbers is actually a flat 19.9 p (including connection charge). Still not a bad deal if one regularly uses these numbers to make international calls.
Have you got o2 homephone ?
Can you confirm thats what they actually charge ?0 -

This is what I am trying to get at. Either the companies offering the cheap international calls should advertise the price of the call for all Telecom companies not just BT or all Telecoms companies should be forced to charge the same rate for these non geo numbers.
People shouldn't have to go through their telecoms providers price list everytime they want to make an non geo call to find out exactly how much they will be charged. Its nonsensical!0 -

Generally, for other calls you have your daytime rate, and evening weekend rate and mobile phone rate which isn't that hard to memorise (and most people have an inclusive call package). With non-geo calls you have loads of different rates depending on the number, its not just 0844 but 0844 ### using the digits after the 0844 you have to calculate the call cost by. You have to look up in a table by your provider for that specific 0844 ### number than find out the group it is in then look up in another price list the actual cost per min for that group. Hence a bit nonsensical for the average person to do.
Remember how with mobiles there used to be a different charge to which mobile phone operator you were calling to i.e BT Cellnet, T-mobile etc. Now they are generally all one cost no matter which company the person you are calling to is on. Which is more sensible.0 -
If anyone is on talktalk and is using the international callchecker to find an access number for another country it is worth cross referencing the number you get with this document to show you what talktalk will charge you for that number. Usually it is the same rate but they charge a 9.9p connection fee. Here is the document: http://media.talktalk.co.uk/sites/TalkTalk/Global/PDF/Non-Geographic-Price.pdf0

Don't you believe it. Calls to '3' mobiles can cost an arm and a leg.Remember how with mobiles there used to be a different charge to which mobile phone operator you were calling to i.e BT Cellnet, T-mobile etc. Now they are generally all one cost no matter which company the person you are calling to is on.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I don't have O2 home phone. I have Sky. However, you can confirm this (0 p per min for G22 band) with O2 if you think this is a typo. In any case, given that this is quoted in their price list, there is no way O2 will be able to charge you anything other than whats written in this document.0
