Webcam/video call problem
Comments

Skype is on my computer but I have never used it.
I do wonder if a slightly earlier version would sort out the problem, as it used to work properly.
I will try that other thing, and in the meantime, I thank you for all you have done to help. I am very grateful.
I will wait for son to be with me and I think I will try to delete Messenger (again) and try to get a slightly older version, but not too old!:)

Uninstall Skype, reboot and the try again.0 -
I have done everything, including taking out the Live messenger (yet again) and installing from the link you sent. No change!
I have not tried the Hijack thingy yet.
The only thing is, you say my messenger is slightly later than yours - I bet I had the earlier one when things were working properly.
Do you have any idea how I could install your slightly earlier one? (I mean, where can I find it?) Just in case that solves my weird problem:p0 -
Yours may be a different version because you are running Vista. Did you uninstall Skype? How did you do so?0

Sorry again for delay. I think I am losing the plot now. I have uninstalled messenger so many times, and tried to install a slightly earlier version.
They are either too early, so will not run, or I found one just a little earlier than the latest one, but after installing it said..you already have a later version, please uninstall this first...well it IS uninstalled and I do not have messenger at the moment!
The skype thing...when I clicked on it (which I have never done before) it appears it is just an icon but has yet to be installed, because it asked me to install it! So I have to assume it is not yet on my computer other than as an icon.
I have spent hours on here now and have not got anywhere! I think the problem lies with the actual messenger version!
I am going to have a last installation of messenger so that at least I can talk to people..and they will have to suffer not seeing me on webcam!!!
Thank you for all your help. You have been brilliant and I am very grateful. XXX0 -
Try using Yahoo Messenger, as your MSN address will work with it. Be careful to not install the Yahoo Toolbar and to not allow it to become your Homepage. So check and tick or untick whatever you need to make sure these things don't happen.
I remember having to look twice.
This way you can see if the problem is with the Windows Live application or elsewhere.0 -
Hee hee - I came back, clearly a nutcase! But thank you. Funnily enough I saw the Yahoo one and wondered if I dared....
I will do it tomorrow, and be careful. And see what happens!
I am too far gone to try tonight!
Thank you again.

Before you install Yahoo... Open Live Messenger and go to Tool > Audio and Video Setup in order to check that all is well there. Then, make sure that your status is set to available and start a voice call(Call), not a video call. Once the voice call is up and running, go to show/view webcam.
Next; run the AVG Removal Tool, but before you do so, download Avast 5 to your Desktop.
Then disconnect from the Internet, remove AVG, reboot and install Avast. Reboot and post the HijackThis log. It's not difficult. Read the Quick Start Guide.0
