New boiler on a budget?

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help please?
My fiance and I live in an ex-council flat and are just about to replace our ancient boiler.
We have missed the boiler scrappage scheme and although we are both on a low income, we do not qualify for the Warm Front grant.
The Energy Trust website suggests looking at offers from all energy suppliers regardless of who supplies our gas and electricity or alternatively approaching our local authority for grants/offers.
I just thought I'd ask if anyone has any recommendations on the best offer currently or best approach to doing this on a budget?!
Many thanks
Ben

You probably did not miss the scrappage-scheme, it is very unlikely you would have qualified.
If the boiler works without problems, keep it. A good new boiler costs a lot of money.
If you do need a new boiler, stay far from energy companies and their misleading advertising. Find yourself a good local plumber, from/with a company where everybody knows everyone else in the company.
Apart from the government scrappage scheme (for which only extremely few people qualify) any and all "trade in" discounts and "private or company only" scrappage schemes are just marketing stunts to mislead you into believing you get a "great deal".0 -
I have moved into a flat with a 30 year old back boiler and wondered about taking up Scottish Hydro's £400 boiler scrappage offer. But I have no idea what a new boiler actually costs and if it's worth it when I've not got double glazing to keep the heat in.
Anyone used the same (or similar) offer? Any advice?0
