MK1 brain coupled with MK1 common sense. I have no spyware tools on other than Microsoft Security Essentials and up to date software and OS.

How can you tell? , it does not run in the background it just sets kill bits in the registry , and sets cookie permissions in IE and Firefox.

It is also worth considering the mvps hosts file for another passive method of stopping access to "unwanted" sites.
