"network cable unplugged" message ..????

in Techie Stuff
running XP on a dell desktop and AOL sivber broadband .
On the bottom taskbar(? is that what it's called? .. the one with the start icon on the left side ).....
.... further along i keep getting a "balloon" warning box saying "network cable unplugged"
We do all the maintainance regularly .. and have even tried re-installing aol but same keeps appearring.
how do i solve / fix ??

Are you connecting via a USB modem? If you don't want to see this balloon, open network connections and uncheck the Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity box.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I have had this too, have you got any unused connections at all? I get it if one of my unsused connections is not disabled. Have a play within the internet connections folder in Control Panel until the icon disappears.0

expresso... we have a BT voyager modem that links to computer by usb.
tom thumb .... what would an "unused connection" be ? what / where am i looking for ??

You could try going into the Network Connections via Control Panel and disabling the connections that are not being used. Works for me!
It's probably your network card that isn't connected that initiates this message.0 -
Go to Start, Control Panel, Network Connections.
Under LAN or High-speed Internet you should find Local Area Connection. Right click on that and disable it0 -

I had this after installing a wireless router. It is just because there is a network card which has no connection I think.0

Yes, I get that on my lappy when wireless - leaps up, goes away...0
