We were flooded and moved out for 15 months while the builders dried the property out and rebuilt it. They did use fans and driers but £10,000?????

We didn't get a bill for the time we were out although we continued paying our normal monthly debit of £80 and thought that would cover it.

Our usage now is down to normal usage of around £80/m.

    Regards

The way to deal with these is to get the electricity Supplier to put the builders name onto their billing system. When this happens, like with new builds, they create a start & end date for builders. Then they chase them for the payment and you are not liable.

Currently, if your name is on there, you are liable for the whole lot. Your Supplier can't bill your insurance company, so you would have to pay them from the pay out.

Seen this before with renovations, builders know they should pay but just dump it on your bill. So, if you were not living there and the builders were the sole power user, your Supplier would be able to add their names and charge them instead!
