How to heat my home this year?

Its getting cooler in the evenings and the morning time to think about heating my home again, I am one of the working poor with no money to save really, We live in the sticks so only have access to oil heating which costs £300 to half fill our oil tank, which would last us all autumn and winter, or £20 per week which give 1 hr heat per day, its approx double the price the getting the tank half filled. We have a new baby on the way so heat is going to need to be on pretty constant but can't afford it.
Any advice appreciated

If you have a look on the Preparing for Winter threads 1 and 2 there's the most amazing amount of information on there about the best and most efficient ways of keeping warm, of insulating your house and so on, and how to carry on as much as normal through the cold times, even when wrapped in fleeces etc!
The other thing is to shop around for oil, there are different prices from different companies on different days. Some people in a village near me club together and get a cheaper price as only one delivery is needed, others recommend Boilerjuice but I find their prices expensive. I can't really benefit from this as like you, I live out in the sticks. The other thing about ringing around is that I've found a company that don't charge extra if you only want half a tank full, which is a real bonus - their overall price is usually good too.
I know I should budget throughout the year for it but life in the country is expensive enough anyway and just getting enough together for food and petrol is tough as it is. The other thing of course is that there hasn't been a warm period this year so keeping warm has become an all round worry. I'm wondering now whether moving house is the only option.
Good luck with the baby.

can you find someone (family/friends) that would loan you the money for the oil tank at a rate of 20 per week (that is to say for 4 months)? - make sure you write it all down for their sake.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0
