The DWP decision of the new awardment amount
Being the new figure of amount of support.
You have a right to be heard, othewise why send the appeal booklet with the awardment letter.0 -
If you are talking about the amount help for SMI payments and the change of interest rate.
This has nothing to do with the DWP and there fore i cant see how you can appeal. i would be interested in what they say in reply.0 -
There's no right of appeal against the decision to reduce the Standard Interest Rate.
Top of my head I think the only option would be for one of the housing charities to request a judicial review of the whole thing if they think the SIR reduction is incompatible with other legislation or has breached equal opps/discrimination processes.
Other than that, I don't think there's anywhere to go with this one apart from the usual letters to the MP's, newspapers etc.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
my help with mortgage interest through pension credits has stopped because of base rate changes and yet i am on a fixed rate i will now have to get my council tax rebate reviewed more hardship for pensioners an old saying comes to mind give them enough rope and they will hang themselves0

I am not appealing against the standard interest rate.
I am appealing against the awardment i have been awarded, taking into account last week before the change living ten pounds about the stated couple allowance.
This week £47.12 below it, if support had dropped for the reason of the interest rate then disposable income that we had must drop.0 -

Hi,
We are basically in the same boat. I have worked hard all of my life until ill health struck me down. Help - there isn't any!
I managed to save whilst working but that went on living costs before I could claim anything - JSA £65.45pw + Pension Credit. We are 62 and 66 and never expected to be treated like this.
It has all come to a sorrowful state. We had our home as we would have wanted it, had a mortgage of just over 50% of its value having put our life savings into it. A lovely 3 bed semi.
But as we could not see a way of paying our mortgage for ever without help, we handed the keys to the bank a couple of months ago.
It is a sad state of affairs that we have now had to rent a 1 bed flat in a not so nice an area just to make sure that the full rent is paid by HB.
How many more are going to end up like us?0 -
hi i am new this this forum and need some advice, my husband has been in receipt of jsa contributin based for 16 weeks, we claimed smi and have been told he cannot claim until he has been receiving jsa contribution bases for 26 weeks, he can then go on income based jsa, will he have to wait a further 13 weeks, can he do anything about his situation now, having never been unemployed in 40 years this is all new to both of us. i would appreciate any advise as the job centre is useless.
thanks.0 -

I'm pretty sure, (but don't hold me to it) that after another 10 weeks have passed, you shouldn't have to wait another 13 weeks as you will have served the qualifying period for mortgage relief already.
For peace of mind and clarification, phone the centre that deals with your JSA claim asap (not the Jobcentre)
Good luckAll you need is love (and chocolate)0
