When I called the Leeds Council one ages ago would have been over a month until I could get an appointment, so I guess they're particularly busy.0 -

Council Test Centres aren't the be all and end all, just trying finding a local MOT test centre. There are two within walking distance of my house, both of which offer an "MOT Only" service.
I feel sorry for the poor sods working in these council depots
Regards,
Andy
its not hard to mot a car same prcedure for most cars lights brakes tyres etc etc etc
the local council centre i use are very good and the "poor sods" working there are more than happy to do cars instead of council vehicles0 -
MOT tests tend to take a fixed length of time since the new computerised system came in, since if you do them too quickly it flags up at VOSA and you get investigated.
Given this the council staff will be doing the same number of tests per day as they were before Martin started advocating them.
If anything I bet they're glad of the variety and the chance to poke around the occasional rare and/or unusual car that comes in, rather than spending their entire day MOTing bin wagons or whatever.
A 1 month backlog also means their jobs are nice and secure.0 -

It's perfectly safe to drive in the mean-time.
It's not quite that "cut and dried."

Andy
It is "quite that cut and dried" and if you ended up in a VOSA roadside inspection, you'd find out that's exactly the case, usually with a nice fine as a reminder.0 -

If you can find any examples of Class IV roadside inspection, I'll give you that one.
Regardless, how effective a roadside inspection you can perform on a car I don't know. For example I can't see how an RBT test could be performed roadside.
Regardless, I know my car will need some stuff for the next MOT, and it is very negligably impacted safety wise by the impending failures.

VOSA have the power to stop and inspect any vehicle in the UK. As it is easier to inspect HGVs, they concentrate mainly on them.Never Knowingly Understood.
