1Mb is fine.
AOL provide a wireless router.
I would say that setting up wireless does need some know how but that said, my totally untechnically minded friend, read this set up guide which came with it and was up and running within mins.0 -
I would give the AOL route the thumbs up as well, as the router they provide is soooo simple to set up,
As mentioned before if they have the router there is no need for the AOL software in the PC's which has given the company such a bad name in the past,0 -
there is an AOL referral scheme ..... £25 for each person (the referer and the new customer)
You may want to consider this.
I have a poor friend who would gladly refer you .... just PM meOr you could can find someone else in the MSE referral forum.

Great Post Espresso,
about AOL start-up instructions. I'm having difficulties with Homecall/Pipex & a 'Buffalo' brand router/network. Unfortunately already bought kit so can't just swop to AOL & free router.
Any chance of a helpful web page or forum to help with the intricacies of PPPoE versus PPPOA etc. as the Homecall tech support phone-line hasn't been that productive so far.0 -

These are the normal settings required for Pipex:
PPPoA
Encapsulation: VC
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
Modulation: GDMT
For more info regarding PPPoE versus PPPOA etc. Google will reveal all.

Thanks Espresso,
The details are similar to the freephone explanation, but … *doh!, slumped in chair*
There don’t seem to be PPPoA as an option – is it possible I got sold a router that can’t use the one protocol my ISP does?
The options set-up on my Buffalo router list “Easy (not) Setup / get IP address automatically from DHCP server / use PPPoE client / use IP unnumbered / specified IP address.
The only one which seems to allow me to enter the expected user/password fields is PPPoE?
Whilst I’ve googled stuff enough to apply for a degree in IT anagrams I’m still no closer to getting a wireless Internet connection…
Please – anyone help – feeling very thick…0
