TalkTalk Direct Debit Date change

I was originally a Tiscali customer which is now TalkTalk, recently they chaged their T & C's which means my Direct Debit comes out in the middle of the month instead of at the end of the month (payday).
As most of my money has gone out of my account by the middle of the money I am concerned that one month I will forget and incur shedloads of Bank Charges.
I have phoned TalkTalk but the woman told me that could only be changed at "Director Level".
I E Mailed them pointing out one of the answers (answer Id 441) still states that payment will come out on or around the First of the month, and asked for mine to be changed, their reply was mine had been changed to come in line with the rest of TalkTalk.

Does anyone have an E Mail address for a Director? or has anyone managed to change their Direct Debit Date?

  • Could someone confirm that all TalkTalk Payments dates are all on or around the same date 20th of the month?

Yes I think so as our DD which used to come out at the end of the month has come out on 21st for the last two months. I also found a page on hotUKdeals.com about this, people complaining that this has happened to them and Tiscali won't refund bank charges-sorry I can't post the link as am a new user to MSE.

    Hi Tez,

No not all TT payment dates are the 20th, we have a number of billing dates and payments are made 14 days later. As such payments are taken at varying days during the month.

However you cannot change the bill date once connected, therefore you cannot change your payment date either.

That is a more sensible and understandable answer than those I have been given by E Mail. Which basically said it was not possible yet gave no reason.

This still does not make it easier, all my other Direct Debits have been arranged to come out at the beginning of the month as I get paid at the end of the month. All these other companies were more than happy to rearrange dates if a DD was to fall in the middle of the month.
I was very apprehensive when Tiscali announced they were being taken over by Talk Talk, they announced that there would be no changes, since that the costs have increased and now my payment date has changed.
I shall be looking carefully at all options once my contract date is up

No. Mine is the 10th, or it should be, I cancelled it cos they kept taking it on the 8th, 9th, whenever they felt like it. My bill still says 10th tho. TalkTalk are full of it, I'm afraid.

    HI tezbeds,

The reason for a fixed DD cycle is to evenly split contact during the month.

If all customers were billed on the same day, even if only 1% of them were to have any query about their bill we would see a huge increase in contact around the bill date, then minimal contact the rest of the month.

This would have a negative impact on customers due to the difficulty in managing such drastically changing call levels during the month.

As such having the multiple fixed DD cycles the entire customer base is spit into smaller positions, each billed, and payments collected, on differing days. This staggers customers contact with any queries on their billing or payment to give more even distribution of contact and more manageable operations of the business as a whole.

Perfect answer, as a customer serving organisation TalkTalk should offer their customers a choice, instead of saying like it or lump it. Leave at your first opportunity.

This will mean a lot of people, myself included will be voting with our feet. After nearly 6 years with TalkTalk I'll now have to move my account as this isn't an option for me.

I'm staggered at the take it or leave it attitude!

And in small print at the bottom of the usual bill? It's sneaky and wrong!

There are a lot of people going to be calling you very unhappy that they didn't receive a letter outlining this change.
