The scheme is with someone called:
Tenant Deposit Solutions Limited
Tenant Deposit Solutions Limited do not exist. See the 3 schemes I listed in my post above and the government website I linked to. There are ONLY 3 authorised schemes. However it looks like you mean MyDeposits.
Who gave you this info? Did the letting agent tell you? The Landlord? Someone elese? It would appear you have been misled (surprise!) and the agents are saying the deposit is with 'Mydeposits' but actually it is not. I would check the other 2 schemes, and then if it is not registered with any scheme, write to the agents.0 -

They are the company we called. I took their name from the paperwork given to my in-laws.
It has the Deposit Sheme Administrator's name and address, phone, email and web-deposit.
On the deposit reference no. it says: "If not shown (and it isn't), please contact the letting agent no earlier than 7 days after the start of the tenancy."
My in-laws did not contact them over this as they did not notice before.0 -
i would write a very short note to the LL and say that until such time as they provide proof that the deposit is protected as per the 2004 Housing Act, you are cancelling all further viewings......
I am 99% sure that TDSL became Mydeposits0 -
Apolgies. From their website:
Company information:
mydeposits (the trading name of Tenancy Deposit Solutions Ltd)
This is indeed Mydeposits.
However, clearly the agents have lied to your inlaws about registering the deposit with Mydeposits (or Tenant Deposit Solutions Limited ).
Check with the other 2 schemes (just to be sure) then write as clutton suggests above.0 -
I will call mydeposits again tomorrow to verify if they do have it or not seeing that in my last phone call I only asked if a deposit with them would be considered protected and did not give details.0

i am confused in post 19 OP says ""

"I cannot contact the landlord as their contract only gives the landlords (a couple) names. Not an address. Just says "care of" and then the details of the letting agency.

Yes, on the "Assured shorthold tenancy agreement" I only have on the "the landlord" their name and then (care of) name and address of LA.
On the "landlord's deposit information form" I have the name of the deposit scheme, name, address, phone number, email and website of this company called Tenant Deposit Solutions Limited.
In here I have again the name of the landlord (a couple) and again it says Care of: and then the details of the LA.
When I called the phone number of the deposit scheme, my question for them was if deposits with them were considered "protected" (I'm not even sure of what this means) and they said yes.
I did not give them my in-laws details.0 -
