Fake Buyers

Is this the new game on EBAY ... MORONS buying items then not paying

when my auction ended ( only 1 bidder )the winner had no feedback so I was prepared for non-payment which has of course happened ,but while flicking through only 1 section of ebay tonight I have noticed the same bidder has bid on 4 different items ( not 1 less than £50 ) CONCRETE BUSINESS , CONDOM MACHINES , CHOCOLATE BARS, MOBILE PHONE..... So if anyone spots an overweight man mixing concrete while talking on a mobile who obviously thinks he gods gift to women .. PLEASE let me know

( my items have sell by dates ) now I am going to have to relist which is really annoying so much so I will now cancel ALL bidders who have zero feedbacks thus stopping any new potential honest members from buying my items

I know I am not the first to complain about this problem ... surely its about time EBAY did more to control this ...they charge enough !

You haven't done something to p*** someone off have you?
It is just that the standard answer on here (and presumably elsewhere??) to someone messing you about on eBay is to set up another user id and bid on their items and not pay and / or leave bad feedback.
Though I think that some people just do it for 'fun'
The sooner that you NPB this loser - the better.
I don't know how people are able to set up (in some cases lots) of eBay accounts because I have never tried to set up another account, but eBay should make it harder.
  • I dont think I`ve upset anyone .... I have 100% feedback on over 500 transactions

I have dealt with some really nice people which was half the fun and made a few quid while doing so but I have noticed over the last 6/12 months things on ebay have changed for the worse with a lot more conmen, fraudsters & spiteful people moving in
EBAY have clearly lost the plot with people being allowed multiple usernames to do with as they please. I even spotted someone who had 36 NEGATIVE feedbacks still trading ... how is this allowed !

It is probably just an idiot with nothing better to do with their time.
Ebay need to get back to their (supposed) core beliefs of trust and honesty instead of being a giant virtual monopoly controlled by its own greed. They just do not seem to care anymore as long as they get their money.

I hate it when someone with 0 feedback bids on my stuff especially if they have only just joined, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt but some people join through sweet collect etc and just bid to get their points, sweets or whatever. It make me so mad.
    I luv freebies

Umm I too have noticed that there appreas to be a slightly greater proportion of scum-artists on Ebay over the last few months.

My NPBs have certainly increased, as have the spoof messages telling me to submit my account details. One assumes that this proliferation is targeted at the newbies recruited after the recent ad campaign.

Re the multiple accounts, I've never really undertsood why Ebay allows this in the first place, or why they don't have an info statement after a user name stating 'this user is also registered as'.

Like most people on MSE I am extremely cautious when selling and buying. Ebay really should allow you to block 0 rated buyers - I reserve the right to cancel them and peopel with -neg feedback at the bottom of my auction listings.

Alternatively, perhaps ebay should charge NPBs a penalty of the same value as the listing fee, as i'm pretty certain that this would significantly reduce the problem. It would also make non-payment of these penalty fees Ebay's concern, rather than as a seller, my time being wasted with chasing non-payers and filing claims. However for this reason I'm pretty certain that they aren't exactly going to be keen to impliment it.

Of course I was a newbie once, but bought a few items under £5 to learn the pitfalls and gain some feedback. You do have to question the sanity of a complete novice prepared to part with significant wedges of cash on the basis of bargain & bidding frenzy.

And who in their right mind buys link?
I do hope you're telling the truth?
  • There are options to try and cut back on NPB's; I have options set so that no one with below 0 feedback (ie -1 can bid) and they have to be registered in the UK...I had to do this thanks to the Nigerian scammers

Also, remember if the NPB is no longer a registered user you can file a final value credit straight away on that basis and it gets accepted immediately. And as long as you relist within 30 days it's free.

I do agree though it has really gone downhill of late with the number of links that are being posted and I don't like having to restrict my bidders thanks to the scammers :(

Yep I have all the 'no-bidders from countries I don't dispatch to, no -2 neg feedbacks' etc in place.

It partly helped - having sold a few phones I found that the only thing that really reduced the number of con artists was to put a clause in the listing - this stated in big letters stating that I wouldn't send items to Nigeria, accept Western Union and that any bids from such users would be immediately cancelled and negative feedback left. It seems to more or less do the trick.
I do hope you're telling the truth?
  • Unfortuately I cannot name him yet as ebay are supposed to be investigating ( Yer right wont hold my breath ) BUT if you browse around im sure you`ll come across him .....
Does anyone know if I list my items and I put " people with 0 feedback need not bid as I will cancel your bids " IS ALLOWED or will I get into trouble ... I know it may be unfair to genuine people & I am going to lose potential new members but I really cannot be bothered with all the hassle of chasing people when I know its a waste of time ...
