Can You Help?

Hi there,
i am really hoping someone can help.
earlier in the year we got 3 letters from a solicitors firm called roxbrough? saying my partner owed a company called hutchinson 3g money. i emailed and sent letters in reply to all 3 letters stating we had never heard of this company to no reply.
anyway my partner has just rang me worried and shaking from work as some other firm(who are meant to be calling me shortly) have rung his work and asked them to tell him it was an urgent matter(of course having me and 3 kids at home he was panicing and worried thinking something had happened) anyway they have told him theyre taking him to court, they rang me and i spoke to them they say they are dealing with a debt for 3 mobile(we did have one taken out in 2003 but paid the debt off-now theyre saying we owe 300 and odd) weve had no contact since around dec 03(my partner was sacked from work back then so we cancelled and paid the debt off bit by bit)
what do i do next? they are meant to be calling me back within the next 10 mins-p.s. sorry if this is wrong section

you need to provide proof that you have paid the debt off.

You could also ask for evidence that you actually owe this amount.
  • they have just called me and said they cant provide proof
i have asked for contact details etc so that i can get some advice and call them and they have given me until tomorrow dinnertime
they said they cant send a letter out as all it will say is the same as he was telling me?
thanks for replies-how can i prove i paid it off after all these years?

If they can't provide proof then how on earth can they show a court that you owe this amount.

Tell them to sod off .!! Even if you owed the money it is Statute barred after 6 years

Also tell them to remove your telephone numbers with immediate effect as this is a breach of Data protection.

Its not up to you to prove you paid .!!!

Just ignore them , there is nothing at all they can do ..
  • he said i needed to ring 3 and ask them how much is paid etc etc
i said i wanted to get some advice so can they send me it in writing to which he said
if i send it in writing it will just say what i am telling you, and it is wasting the time you have before you are taken to court
they are threatening to put a CCJ on the account

Dont do anything at all, Ignore them don't take any calls or answer any more questions .

If they contact your husband at work again this could constitute harassment and is against the law .
  • so dont even send the letter?

You have to be careful with any correspondence as they can say that by acknowledging them you are admitting liability .
