Does you machine have a SATA or IDE hard drive? At the moment, you machine is reporting that it is an ASUS.

Hi Donnie, thanks so much for your help.0

What I thought would be a relatively simple (but time consuming) operation now seems more complicated than I want to try. The issue with the changed motherboard has made me nervous of re-installing the OS. Especially this question of wether the hardware drivers I would need to download from Compaq would work with the new MB. I'm terrified that I'd end up with no PC and have to have it professionally repaired, which I just can't afford at the moment.0

No need to panic. The disc will work fine. It's the right disc for the Motherboard concerned. That's why I checked and doubled checked.
As to the Drivers, what we will do in this situation, is to back up the existing drivers to a CD. Then if there was any discrepancy between the Drivers, we could just use the ones on the CD.
Just download, install and run the Trial version of Driver Genius Professional 10 and use it to back up all of your Drivers to a CD.
Take your time. Don't feel rushed. It will all make sense in a while and you'll feel much more confident in the future.0 -
OK Donnie, I'll have a go after I've bought some blalnk CD'S. Am I right in thinking the drivers I need to re-install are those listed in Device Manager?0

Yes, get Driver Genius Professional to back them up for you.0

ARRGH! Just tried to backup my drivers to a CD using Driver genius, and it's telling me that the file or path name can't be used, and to make sure I have sufficient access. I knew this was gonna be a nightmare to do! So, what now?
E2A: OK, just done it the long way round (drag & drop). Now for the interesting stuff...0 -
