how to reset/clear data from sky box without having sky

i recently inherited a couple of sky boxes and a sky plus box from a relative who passed away. we live in a listed building and cant get sky and dont want need a freeview box. i want to freecycle/sell them but i want to clear all the data from them first. is there a way i can do this without being connected to sky??

What 'data' are you referring to? Only the Sky+ box will have any programs saved to the hard drive, the standard boxes are just digital tuners.

Blimey what a helpful bunch ^^

Connect the box to your TV using scart or the RF output just as you would with any video/dvd player.

1. Press TV guide on remote.
2. Press green button.
3. Then select the recordings and press the yellow button to delete each one in turn.

They probably cant be used for any purpose but remove the viewing cards before sale

Simply connect the Sky+ as above

Switch on
Press "Services" "4" "0" "1" "Select" - this will take you to the "hidden" Installers menu (Note it is hidden and the screen will not change on some button presses)
Choose "System reset" - this will in effect format the hard disk and delete all file entries for programmes, series links and reminders.

BTW the card is officially NOT yours to sell (read the back of the card) but no action is usually taken on this except if listed on auction sites such as ebay and when they noticed or they receive alerts then the listing is immediately removed. So if you do intend passing the card on (it will act as a FreesatFromSky card if still working) merely photograph the boxes with the card visible (open flaps etc) and list the box "as illustrated" but do not mention the card in the description.
