Orange personal telecommunocations
Can someone please help me with a problem I'm having with Orange Personal Telecommunications. I ran up a bill on my Orange pay monthly mobile phone and couldnt pay it off. I managed to pay approximately half the bill leaving an outstanding balance of £265. A collections company going by the name of NCO Europe contacted me on numerous occasions, ultimately making me an offer where by I could pay £200 of the outstanding balance and they would waive the remaining £65 provided I pay within 10 days, which I did. I have since been contacted by Westminster solicitors for the £65, I explained to them of the deal with NCO Europe and they apologised and ceased contacting me. I have now been contacted by a company called Moorcroft Debt recovery services for the £65. I again contacted them and explained the debt was now non existent. They refused to accept this and have now told me if I dont pay I will be taken to court. Where do I stand on this as having contacted NCO Europe to ask for written confirmation of the offer THEY made they refused pointblank to put this in writing and have basically lied to me at every turn.

How were you made aware of the £65-off deal in the first place? Was it by phone?
Do you have any paperwork/statements/final settlements/anything else from NCO regarding the account?
Ask Moorcroft for a breakdown of the amount owing and see what their paperwork says...Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I have no paperwork from NCO anymore, I foolishly destroyed it once I cleared the £200. I do have letters from Moorcroft though. When I contacted NCO they confirmed I'd settled the debt but they refused to put that in writing. The person I spoke to assured me he would contact Orange to confirm the debt had been cleared but I'm still receiving correspondence0

I'd call NCO again, ask who they spoke to at Orange (get a name, dept and contact number) and then try to contact them as I'm guessing that, that would be someone in billing or debt recovery.
Once you've got hold of them, they can contact Moorcroft through channels and get them to stop bothering you...0 -
You could consider doing a DPA SAR request (it'll cost you a tenner) to NCO. Then they HAVE to send you everything held on computer about your account. This should hopefully include the fact the account is settled. It might even show them being underhand and selling off the remaining £65 to someone else, despite what they may have told you...?Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Above is a template letter you can send to them. Send it RECORDED delivery so you know the !!!!!!s got it, and don't sign it. Or if you do, sign it with a wildly different signature to your normal one so that you know if they then 'copy' it on to anything else. Yes, they could stoop that low... Include a Postal Order for a tenner within.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
