  • If you have the higher and lower rates an the no charge at the higher rate we can work it out fairly easily. If you have been billed on commercial rates I haven't a clue I'm afraid :(

Domestic charge would be around 2.5p unit, so say £390, plus standing charge, plus 5% VAT.

Hi robmcdougal90 - Wading thro' the posts it seems certain that you ran through 1404 meter units recorded on a brand new meter that started at zero

This meter having been fitted 12 months ago, will certainly have been a Metric model that delivers one cubic metre of gas for each unit recorded
The old meter was likely to have been an Imperial model that delivers 100 cubic feet of gas for each unit recorded - nearly 3 times more than a Metric meter.

It is not uncommon for suppliers to record that a new meter has been fitted, but then fail adjust the charge calculations from Imperial to Metric
Look at the front of your meter - It will be marked M3 for metric or Ft3 for Imperial
Look at the Bill - On the line which begins with Units used and ends with Kw used, ( See example on post #6), divide the Kw used figure by the Units used figure - The answer should be appx. 11 for a metric meter, IF IT IS appx. 31 YOUR ARE BEING CHARGED FOR AN IMPERIAL METER and BG's bill of £1250 for 1404 meter units appears to confirm this.
If you do have a metric meter, the bill should be under £500 so get onto BG immediately
