It's been announced that Nationwide are closing all their agency branches by the end of the year. These are usually located in estate agents and insurance brokers and provide basis banking services . This could affect lots of people, including myself.

Personally it doesn't bother me as I do my Nationwide banking via net, telephone banking & village Post Office.
I guess it's convenient to have in estate agents & insurance brokers but, depending on overall usage possibly not necessary given that banks are pruning & streamling

With Halifax doing the same, is that the end of Bank/Building Society agencies now?0

I live in Littlehampton, West Sussex. We have an agency branch which incorporated the old Portman Building Society (which funnily enough was located next door), so I wonder if this will be affected as my brother uses that particular branch. I might have to warn him about it.

One's in a Halifax estate agents & the other is a big main branch.
I took a cheque in last month to the agency branch & to deposit had to write the envelope out the cheque goes in.
I did it wrong the 1st time so had to do it again as the women at the door was trying to 'sell' the Reward Account to me!
This month I took the cheque to the main branch across the road & put it through the machine (fancy system) - 60 seconds ► done ► out.
Point being: shut the agency it's a money & time waster :beer:Proudly Banking & Saving With:

Maybe there simply isn't a business need given their dismal savings rates and soon to be mediocre FlexAccount - they either have or are anticipating less customers...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

In town Halifax have 2 branches situated across from one another!
One's in a Halifax estate agents & the other is a big main branch.
It may be a Halifax agency (soon to close anyway) in a third party estate agent but it ain't a Halifax branch in a Halifax Estate Agent office.0 -
I've inc. a pic from Google Earth of the branch:
HBOS, Market St., Huddersfield.
I guess that's why the agency ½ looked mostly empty!
They should shut the bank ½ too while they're at it
I was thinking it was having a refit:rotfl:

I used to use the Halifax agency near me a heck of a lot - saved the palava of going into "proper" town, parking, detours into shops costing cash etc when I just wanted to pay a cheque in quickly!
These days I just send hubby to do it on his lunch hour - but still sad to see them go (can they lock the idiots from their adverts up in one that they're closing though?)

I live in a market town with a population of over 20,000 with lots of "proper" banks, but with only a Nationwide agency. Nearby smaller towns do have a proper Nationwide branch, so i cannot understand why they have only had an agency in out town.
Unfortunately my wife and I have a Nationwide Flex Account which is our main and only current account. So we now have to decide if we want to move to another bank in town which does have a proper branch. Although most transactions are done by me on-line, I still prefer a place I can visit, especially if there are any problems. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
