one lady hit my parked car so hard she pushed me 3ft out of the space.... She then walked into Tesco completely oblivious to what she had done. My DD was in the car and very upset when I got back (I'd been gone 2 mins for a bottle of pop!) as the other car was embedded in the front end of mine. I put a call out over the tannoy and she came out, as I said oblivious but very shocked.

Fortunately there was no damage to my car, and she bought DD a big bag of sweets for upsetting her, but to this day I cannot get over the fact someone can push a car 3 feet and not notice!

I guess the problem is some people think of a car as a comfortable armchair to travel in, as opposed to a 2 tonne lump of metal going up and down the roads that can actually hit other things and kill people.

I was once accused of reversing into a car, I must admit I didn't feel a thing and when I looked there was no damage to either car. I was completely puzzled as to why I was being accused?

Well lets hope the next thing they reverse into isn't a small child.

With modern cars with ever higher back ends and worsening visibility due to the requirement for high NCAP ratings, this is getting to be an ever worse problem.

I hate reversing my Mondeo as you can hardly see anything, can't see where the boot ends, and the lowest point you can see is a good 4ft off the ground. Even the trick of opening the door and sticking your head out isn't perfect because of the heavy curvature of the back end.

Without parking sensors you end up having to work on memory and knowledge of the dimensions of the car, but that isn't going to help if a kid comes running from an unfortunate angle.

Sometimes I really do wish for my old 940 estate back. No problems with visibility on that thing.
  • I hate trying to park cars ... i can parallel park the works 7.5t and transits easily, could reverse my old landrover in a parking space (albeit in a few goes due to lack of power steering and tanker like turning circle) but my current Primera? ...... it a bloomin pain, useless mirrors and no idea where the back end is.

As for people saying sorry, never had a problem to be honest, but then as my kids are fond of telling me, looking like shrek does have some advantages ... lol
