I picked loads of hazelnuts from the tree in our garden around 4 weeks ago and I have them sitting in a dish on top of some kitchen paper. I'm not really sure what to do with them next. How long do I wait before I crack them open as most of them don't rattle when I shake them?? Also do I need to put them in the oven and cook them before using them?? Sorry for the questions but only realised it was a hazelnut tree this year and we managed to get some before the squirrel got them all!
Last week I made some chocolate brownies with raisins and hazlenuts in and they were lovely. I just followed a normal brownie recipe and added a random amount of raisins and hazlenuts (bashed up first with a rolling pin).
