That is what we do too, School or bed......0 -
Yes, it was some time ago: however how long was I supposed to wait before assuming it was OK? Don't get me wrong, I was going to do it anyway that particular year ... but I was trying to do it their way and they seemed to go out of their way to make it difficult!I'm guessing this was some time ago with you putting DS1?
My kids school you only heard something back if it wasn't ok. If it was you heard nothing.:D I was 'enlightened' by other mums who had kids/step-kids older than mine. Only in more recent years did you get an authorised/not authorised copy of the form back- probably around the time that LA's started imposing fines.
I mean WHY could the child not ask for and be given a form? WHY could the letter I first wrote not have been sent to the office for a form to be issued?
With the LA issuing fines things may have changed.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

State schools are not legally obligated to authorise any holidays! The 10 day holiday allowance is a myth and is at the schools discretion.
Before my DD (15) accepted her secondary school placement, we had to sign forms to state that we would not take any time off in school terms for holidays etc.
I would just let the school know your intentions. If you've already made them aware, then there shouldn't be a problem.

meaning its your child, your family, your holiday, its got nothing to do with the school. No wonder some people home ed.
Red devil....I dont mean this in any malice as I always respect your posts but the above I dont agree with!
We are fortunate in this country to get free and a good standard of education for our children. The schools provide on average 12 weeks a year off, so surely we can TRY to sort holidays around the school holidays.
Main bug bear is that the prices are so extortionate!
Yes they are our children and family but we have to respect terms and conditions for our children to gain an education and sometimes this means sacrificing other things.

i try not to take my children out of school during term times and as a result my children have 98% attendance records ( dentists appointments and illness account for 2%) that said I hope they won;t mind too much when in 3 years time i take my son out of school for 3 weeks to do a highly educational american roadtrip . I dare say they will mind but I will do it anyway, probably acceopt the fine they will no doubt give out and make sure he gets educated on route .I am journeying to a debt-free life.
Our estimated debt-free date is January 2040. I'm on a mission to bring that date closer!

We have a personal policy of never having time off during term time. My thinking is that there are enough holidays for us to go away in. If you have already booked the time off before getting 'permission' from school, then you need to write in and tell them that that is what you have done.
Could you not just go after school on the fri and come back sun eve. That's what we've done on numerous occasions, instead of taking the extended weekend off.0
