Halifax Reward Current Account

I'm a bit bewildered by this as I applied online last week, got to the processing stage and waited what seemed like an eternity to be told congratulations your account is 'open' your sort code is blah blah and your account number is blah blah!
I then proceeded through the online account set up to be told at the end that I would be contacted by the switching team shortly to arrange transfer of my crappy A&L account:D
Today I logged onto the halifax to look at my account to see a 'Account Holding' message after I clicked a link 'application decision' !!!!!!
What does this mean?
Do I have the account or not?
I've already informed work of the change of account details for my salary and I'm worried now that after issuing an account number and sort code I may not get it and then have to change my payment details back again for my salary!
Anyone else who has gone through this recently able to tell me how long this 'Account Holding' process takes?

Hi, I opened one of these Halifax accounts online last week and i needed to deposit £100 before my account could be activated which i did a few days later, i have just received my debit cards etc. Have you contacted Halifax to see what the situation is? I am also using their switching process, they have just applied a £250 free for 90 days overdraft as part of the process and requested i ring them, they just confirmed with me that i wanted to carrying on with the switching, and not to deposit any money until they wrote to me to tell me the direct debits had been transferred.0

Have you deposited any funds into the account ? If not I suggest you do. £0.01 in the account during the overnight run will activate the account though you'll need £100 to activate the debit card to be sent.
You may then see that depost dissappear from the online banking screen for up to 24hours, but don't worry as it's there in the background and will soon return. Just one of the peculiarities with Halifax.
As for the switching process from A&L be very very patient, it is taking as long as 2 months for Santander to send details of DD's/SO's to Halifax0 -
I never saw anywhere that you needed to transfer some money into the account to activate it:o
Will do that right away:D0 -
Yeah you do but, it's only for 24 hrs to activate the debit card to be sent. My mate was told this while I was with him in the branch (not online) a fortnight ago.
Maybe you missed it in the excitement of applying

So much for this account being opened, I've just logged on to be told
'Application Denied'
Why in the hell do they get you to set everything up including give you an account number and sort code to then deny you of an account, in all a total waste of my time:mad:0 -
It's called progress :rotfl:
What do you actually get from them for the hassle of switching your main current account over to them & even waiting an age for them to transfer DDs, SOs ... Also is it really worth it when you can just go into a branch armed with ID & it's done & dusted. Job doneProudly Banking & Saving With:

I beg to differ (as I posted on another thread). Halifax Head Office seemed unaware of this trait. It did not resolve itself. They told me that the money was "there" but I had to go to the branch, as only they could release it. A long wait in the branch, and a member of staff did exactly as I had done, and phoned head office. Eventually I got my £100 back.0 -

No - the best thing is just to wait overnight, and it'll normally be showing up there by the next day.
There's no need to go into the branch or anything, it'll always automatically return (no matter what telephone banking told you...).0 -

I really wish they told me that! £80 went missing after initially showing in online banking and when I went into a branch they had no record of it ever being there. Then the call centre had me going backwards and forwards with my other bank (where the payment came from) about 4 times as there was no record of the payment in their systems! It's called progress :rotfl:

I'm getting £100 for switching to them - £50 direct from Halifax and £50 through topcashback. Plus a fee free £250 overdraft for 90 days I believe, which will come in very handy for me.
And I'm not even switching my main account over, just my A&L/Santander account with 1 direct debit with paypal and no salary etc. From the sound of it, it leaves the old account open (especially as they don't mention what will happen with any money that may still be in there) but I don't really care if it ends up being closed.0 -
I'm not sure why this account is such a good deal, doesnt it charge you a fee of £12.50 a month? or am I missing something?0
