Is there any way of using my 18185 account on my mobile with the giffgaff sim. On their website it states uk fixed calls are 1p a minute so obviously this will work out alot cheaper than dialling straight from the giffgaff sim as this is charged at 8p a minute.
Does anyone know how I go about using the 18185 account on my mobile is there a special number is I need to dial before making the call etc..
Thanks

You would pay the 1p on top on the 8p per minute so wouldn't save any money.
The number is 020 81 80 2828:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

SSSssshhhh - let me tell you about a little secret - if you look on their website giffgaff do not charge you for 0800 or 0808 numbers - free means free - 18185 have a freephone number 0808 1 703703 so dial that (thats free) then just dial your number and hey presto 1p calls or even better Int calls at cheap prices .....Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

Are u sure this will work Salopman? I thought giffgaff only gave free calls to 0800 numbers. I know 0808 is a freephone number but I thought this was chargeable on giffgaff.
So have u actually tried this mate?0 -
Yes, it works.
Well, to call Spain at 5p connection and 1p/minute (all charges on my 18185 account) anyway.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
So let me get this clear guys to ring uk geo no's like 01,02,03 from my giffgaff it will cost me 5p connection and 1p a minute by dialling the 0808 number first?
There would be no need for me to buy any goodybags then.
If this truelly works this will save me an absolute packet.

I've been trying to find cheap calls for my landline and mobile and just signed up for 18185.
I see on the website it says the freephone number is for non bt users and mobiles to make international calls. It seems that for uk calls you would have to use the 020 number which would be charged.
Am I right?0 -

No you can use the 0808 freephone access number as well but giffgaff are the only mobile supplier that allows you to call it free, and i doubt that this will last very long.
Only Bt have to allow access to the indirect code 18185 from a landline some other suppliers do others have barred access.
Its cheaper to use the 18185 code from your BT landline then the 0808 number.;)0 -

A freephone number is a freephone number so, if you can dial it for nothing from your phone, it costs nothing to call.
Hence, as I said in post #5, 18185's freephone gateway number can be used from your giffgaff mobile.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. No, the 0808 number works fine for me for UK calls.earthlover wrote: »It seems that for uk calls you would have to use the 020 number which would be charged.
I just set up the numbers in my phonebook along the lines of:
08081703703PPP01234567890#
where 01234567890 is the number you're calling, and P is a pause. It seems to work OK so far.Stompa0
