re. cost of stands - if you have enough time, junk shop plates can be araldite-d to candlesticks with flat tops, making individual vintage stands of 1 layer.

my friend made some, they were lovely! You could always flog em at a boot sale afterwards if they survive!

The plates look fab and cheap idea too but oh doesn't like. He's fussier then me and has shot half my ideas down!! But he's prob right they wouldn't 'fit' as everythings modern he's worried they'd just look out of place whereas if we had something else along them lines it wouldn't be too bad.

OMG had to tell you all this.... after looking at this with my OH earlier this week, last night he said...
"Someone told me about making really big cupcakes... we should make one - it could be massive!"
I was like

clinton cards have statring selling cupcakes online and they are due to launch giant ones soon, i went into buy a card recently and they gave me a leaflet with a 20% discount code, but i chucked it!! sorry0
